Let's talk about advertising on podcasts

Our friend Kyle Marshall of Media Lab YYC and the Putting It Together podcast posted an insightful video on why local businesses should consider advertising on podcasts in their communities.

Kyle Marshall video on advertising on local podcasts

Kyle makes the point that there is a lot of mutual benefit for local businesses to advertise on locally focused podcasts. Not only are podcast ads less likely to be skipped than other forms of advertising, but you are also enlisting the host to speak genuinely and enthusiastically about your business, and enabling that podcaster to keep going. That's the win-win.

We obviously believe this strongly at the Alberta Podcast Network, and we make it easy for local businesses to buy ads on the locally focused podcasts in our network that speak to their potential customers. We also have podcasts that reach audiences around the world, and if a local business wants to talk to those listeners, we can help there, too.

What about everyone else?

We represent close to 50 Alberta-made podcasts, but that's just a fraction of the podcasts that are being made in this province. We'd like to help other Alberta-based shows access this stream of funding, and create that mutual benefit of which Kyle speaks.

Edmonton Podcasting Get-Together
To that end, the next Edmonton Podcasting Get-Together will focus on how to sell ads onto a podcast. We'll be talking to Robyn Dawson of Kick Media, who has many years of experience as a media buyer and strategist.

If you want to sell ads, you have to make the case, and you have to make it easy. Robyn will help us understand how to do that.

We'll gather at the ATB Entrepreneur Centre in Edmonton on Oct. 8. Tickets are $10, and everyone who buys a ticket will get a promo code for $10 off any APN product or service.
