Apply Now for UR CTSI Pilot or Incubator Funding
The UR CTSI is now accepting applications for three funding programs with a potential start date of July 1, 2020.
The Pilot Studies Program supports translational and clinical research that moves new discoveries along the translational continuum to humans and the community. There are three award categories: Faculty, Trainee and UNYTE Translational Research Network. Learn more and view the RFA. Initial abstract submissions are due on Monday, October 7.
The Incubator Program supports the development of promising clinical and translational research in a collaborative fashion within the institution, where substantial, carefully targeted investments can accelerate progress and create stand-alone research programs. The Novel Biostatistical and Epidemiologic Methods Program supports the development of novel biostatistical and epidemiologic methods that help overcome specifically identified limitations and significantly enhance the validity and accuracy, scope or speed of clinical or translational research. Adnan Hirad, M.D., Ph.D. (UR CTSI Ph.D. 2018 graduate and 2016 pilot awardee) was featured on the September 6 edition of NPR’s Science Friday! CHeT Presents the Future of Clinical Trials
URMC Center for Health + Technology (CHeT) is sponsoring three events this week related to clinical trials:
- The UR-Udall Investigator Meeting will focus on NIH-funded research devoted to developing tools to advance Parkinson’s disease research. Dina Katabi, Ph.D., professor of Computer Science, MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab, and 2013 MacArthur Fellow, will present “Seeing Through Walls,” on Wednesday, September 11 from 2:30 – 3:15 pm in Helen Wood Hall, Evarts Lounge. Registration is recommended due to limited seating.
- CheT Innovates is your chance to meet CheT researchers, doctors and computer scientists to learn how technology is increasing our understanding of health. A roundtable on the “Power of Research Participants” will be held Thursday, September 12, in Helen Wood Hall Auditorium, 1W-304, 2:30 – 3:30 pm followed by a showcase of interactive exhibits and posters in the Saunders Research Building Atrium, 3:30 – 5:30 pm. - The Technology and Rare Neurological Diseases Symposium (TRNDS) symposium, sponsored by UR CTSI and CHeT, assembles leaders from NIH, FDA, pharma, tech and patient advocates to accelerate the development of treatments for rare neurological disorders. The symposium will be held Friday, September 13, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm in the Saunders Research Building. View agenda. It is a unique personal identifier that connects to all of your work and professional activities, including grant applications and conference presentations. This data can be used across the scholarly communications network. UR has also initiated ORCID projects that will help streamline activity reporting within our own systems. Collaborative Innovations in Pharmaceutical Product Development Conference
For more than ten years, the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology & Education (NIPTE) has collaborated with industry, academia and government to identify and solve the world’s pharmaceutical challenges. To that end, NIPTE is hosting the Collaborative Innovations in Pharmaceutical Product Development Conference in Arlington, VA from Wednesday, October 2 to Friday, October 4.
There is no cost to attend the conference; however, advance registration is required.
If you wish to present a poster, you must be registered to attend the conference by Monday, September 16 for consideration. Learn more.

NIH Loan Repayment Programs
The NIH Loan Repayment Programs are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. Awardees can receive up to $100,000 of qualified educational debt repayment with a two-year contract. The application cycle closes on Friday, November 15.
