Book Discussion - Monday, Sept. 9th at 6:30 pm
There is still time to pick up your copy of “March:Book One” – a graphic novel memoir about the life of Congressman and Civil Rights leader John Lewis. Take home a copy to read and then join us on Monday, September 9th at 6:30 pm for a Community Discussion on the book and related topics including discrimination, equality, social justice and non-violent protest. We will begin by viewing some videos of Lewis in the past and present and then Lucy Maddox - Professor Emeritus and author of 2 books on slavery - will facilitate our discussion. This event will be the first in our Fall Event Series on civil rights issues. Visit our website for more details on the book and to see the other Fall events we have planned.
Special Fall Book Sale
Our Special Fall Book Sale will be held on:
Saturday, September 7th from 8 am - 1 pm
Sunday, September 8th from 10 am - 1 pm
Monday, September 9th from 2-6 pm.
All books will be by donation.
Community Sing and Potluck Dinner at ECCC
Join us at the East Corinth Congregational Church for a potluck dinner followed by an evening of secular community singing at 5:30 pm on Friday, September 13th. Children and families welcome! Have a song request? Contact event coordinator Wendy Heidenreich @ 439-6170 or epicen@gmail.com prior to the event, and she’ll do her best to provide lyrics. Play an instrument or have a favorite songbook? Feel free to bring them along. No musical experience necessary to enjoy this event.
Vermont Humanities Council Presentation - “Daisy Turner's Kin,” Friday, September 20th at 4:30 pm
Vermont folklorist Jane Beck shares the story of the Turner family, a multigenerational saga spanning two centuries, played out across three continents. The saga was related to Jane Beck by Daisy Turner, who had listened to her father, Alec Turner, recount stories of the family past. Her captivating narrative covers the early 19th century British-African trade, shipwreck, birth of a biracial child, slave trading, enslavement, plantation life, escape, Civil War, moving north, battling racism, buying land and settling on a hilltop in Vermont that became a family center. Daisy also shared her own life story, a powerful and rare account of the African American experience in New England from the 1880s forward.

All Vermonters now have access to a wealth of online resources provided by the Vermont Online Library (VOL).
