"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells...
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies."
-John Keats

"Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was as crisp and golden as an apple..." There's always a lot of debate over the start of fall. Some don't want to acknowledge it until towards the end of September, while others were merely waiting for the first of September to start putting up Halloween decorations! The truth is there's multiple seasonal calendars; the astronomical calendar marks autumn on September 23rd, but the meteorological calendar says it starts September 1st (which is what most of the UK goes by and probably why JK Rowling had that line in her book), and the Celtic calendar actually marks August as the start of harvest season! There you go, more information on autumn and calendars than you ever wanted to know! Here harvest season is in full swing in September and the temperatures start to drop rather dramatically, so it feels like fall to me at least.
When I was younger I never liked fall much; it was always cold and meant going back to school which meant relinquishing freedom. But these days with school long behind me, I get very optimistic in fall. Like spring, it's a season of change. It always feels like the start of something new and a time when so much is possible. I recently asked people in my IG stories what they were looking forward to at this moment and said it could be random, big or small. seasonal or not, and so many people were looking forward to seasonal things. Hearing everyone else's optimism for what's ahead filled me with even more enthusiasm for the coming season and rest of the year. There's so much inspiration all around us if we only take a moment to stop and appreciate it.
