A big WELCOME to our new SLO Co Farm Trail Partners!

Kiler Ridge Olive Oil

A family farm currently maintaining 2,700 olive trees that produce exquisitely verdant and flavorful extra virgin olive oil.  They grow seven different varieties of Italian olive tress on 15 acres of land.

Eco-friendly in all farming & milling practices, they even use their olive pomice (leftover organic matter from milling) as a natural fertilizer for their orchards and the unused oil is repurposed for soaps and body balms.

Join them for
educational olive oil tastings, tours, and a weekend food pairing menu.  Learn more about Kiler Ridge HERE

founder Lynette Sonne

A quick meeting with FARMstead ED founder Lynette Sonne and Karen Tallent, owner of The Groves on 41, is enough to get the mouth watering for the savory and sweet flavors grown all along the Central Coast — which is just the reason Lynette was moved to launch the FARMstead ED program in 2014.

Five years later, partnered with more than a dozen farmers and producers, an “a-ha moment” sprouted into a full ED-ucational AGRI-cultural experience around San Luis Obispo County.

A Story of Survival, and finding a good home ...
on The Trail at Hartley Farms!

You can meet these giant "torts" when visiting Hartley Farms.

Eagle, Frodo, and Gandalf come from
the far of land of... Malibu
.

As told by Barbara Hartley of Hartley Farms

Their home was destroyed by the Wolsey fire last November. A long time friend of mine lived there with them and 3 pigs, 2 bunnies, 2 dogs, and a lizard. They all narrowly escaped, but had nothing to go home to. She easily found a temporary home that accepted dogs, but the  others... not so much. She found a rescue for the pigs, a boarding for the bunnies, a place for the lizard, but was having a hard time finding the appropriate habitat for three giant torts! Because they are all males, they need all separate enclosures. I told her, I don’t  have a tortoise habitat, but I have 37-acres - you can build whatever you like. So she did! And we have been hosting them ever since. They eat our lawn clippings, old pumpkins, and veggies. And they keep the goats and chickens company. They are doing well and are very happy....  at least we THINK that’s their happy face!
