Hello Everybody!

Last month was a great month in ministry!

Jesus is the only sinless person ever to live, right? Not according to the Baha’i Faith.

In the Baha’i Faith; each messenger of God is considered sinless: Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Mohammad, the Bab or Baha’u’llah. While the Baha’i faith can claim this in their writings; why do some of the messengers of God claim to be sinful and have to repent of their sins? In the book Some Answered Questions by Abdu’l -Baha this is addressed in chapter 44. I read this chapter with Keith who is a Baha’i member. There were two examples that were covered in the chapter that we discussed.

Example #1: The first example is Moses striking a rock when he is angry in Numbers 20. In the story Moses is just supposed to speak in order for the water to come out of the rock. Instead of speaking to the rock he loses his temper with Israel and strikes it twice.

“And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them."”

Numbers 20:12 ESV

Pretty clear cut, right? Moses sinned and can’t go into the Promised Land. It is not how the Baha’i faith sees it though. The Baha’i explain that it was actually Israel sinning in this case, and that is why Moses struck the rock. The Baha’i members try to point out that Israel has always been rebellious against God while in the wilderness. While that may be the case of them rebelling it still does not explain why Moses hit the rock and Moses was not allowed to go into the Promised Land. Some of the sinful Israelites were allowed to go in though. Keith understood my point about Israel being allowed to go in while Moses could not.

Example #2: The next example in the chapter is Mohamed repenting in the Koran. In chapter 44 it states, “In the same way in the Qur'an it is said to Muhammad: "We have granted Thee a manifest victory, so that God may forgive Thee Thy preceding and subsequent sin. “This address, although apparently directed to Muhammad, was in reality for all the people. This mode of address, as before said, was used by the perfect wisdom of God, so that the hearts of the people might not be troubled, anxious and tormented.”

Abdu’l -Baha knows exactly what the passage is saying is my guess, but he had to twist the text in order to stay true to the Baha’i writings and his father, Baha’u’llah. As I was talking with Keith he sees Mohammad repenting, but in his eyes he cannot believe Mohammed needed to repent. He has to listen to Abdul Baha instead of someone he considers a messenger of God; Mohammad.

Isn’t it interesting that people will not believe who they believe to be messengers of God, but they will believe someone of their faith that writes on the subject?

Please pray for Keith to see that whom he believes to be messengers of God are actually sinful humans. Please pray that Keith will see Jesus as the only sinless person, and the only one to forgive our sins.

2 Cor 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (ESV).

Jesus is the only sinless man that became sin for us! No one else!

A great witnessing opportunity for all:

The LDS Church is going through a manual called “Come, Follow Me.” For the month of July they went through the book of Romans. Romans is one of my favorite books on witnessing to LDS people. This book highlights my favorite passage in the book of Romans.

Romans 5:8 says, “…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (ESV).

Compare that to Alma 11:37 which says:

37 And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins.

Please let me know if you have any questions on this.

Have fun witnessing to your LDS friends and family!

Upcoming Trips:

I will be traveling with Eric Johnson of Mormonism Research Ministry for two trips. We will be speaking at local Christian churches about the differences between LDS temples and the temple in the Bible. We will be attending the rededication of the LDS temples in both of these locations. We will be handing out a newspaper about the differences.

  • Raleigh, NC: September 20-28

  • Baton Rouge, LA: October 25-November 2nd for rededication of the LDS temples.
