Shout out to Swing Left, a group that has been doing amazing work in the Greater Boston area. They mobilize volunteers to canvass, register voters, and write postcards, and they're building a strong and resilient activist community. Check out their events here, and read a  reflection on the NC-09 special election here.

Also, if you're in the northeastern part of the state, check out the Medicare for All forum in Groton, sponsored by Indivisible Nashoba and featuring a panel of experts and state Senator Jamie Eldridge. We can do this in MA!

IN TOUCH WITH INDIVISIBLE

Take the Indivisible Debate Survey Now
A message from Indivisible National.
After the last two debates, we asked Indivisibles to weigh in and give us your thoughts on the Democratic presidential candidates. The results we saw proved what we already know: that across our grassroots movement, there’s a wide variety of perspectives, thoughts, and preferences. But different opinions are not a bad thing, and we’re here to help ensure that this primary allows us to push boundaries, test ideas, and build power to get our candidates and movement ready to defeat Donald Trump in 2020.

In order to do that, we’ve got to make sure folks know where we stand. Indivisibles have helped lead the resistance and have won important battles at state and local levels. We continue to be on the front lines of solidarity in our communities, fighting for our shared values. We need to take a seat at the table.

Will you weigh in on the 2020 candidates in our post-debate survey?

We’re interested in getting a temperature on where our network is on the candidates, and that means collecting feedback from as many voices as possible, so we really hope you’ll take a few minutes to weigh in! The results of this survey (or any of our debate surveys) will not be used to make a unilateral presidential endorsement. Any move towards endorsing a candidate would require deep, sustained, intentional engagement across our full network of activists. What we will do is share these results publicly and with the media to show that we’re watching, we’re engaged, and our voices matter.
We Need Your Input to Plan Our November Conference
Indivisible MA is proposing to organize a conference in Worcester or environs in early November. We’d like to find out from you: Do you like this idea? Would you attend? Would you help us to put it together?

Please complete this short survey to let us know if a conference will help, and if the answer is yes, what you would like to see at the conference. Is it organizing skills, campaign strategies, connecting with your fellow groups?

We need you to make this happen. Do you have ideas, skills, connections, time, extra energy, or know people who do? We know you do! We’ll do most of our planning via Zoom so you can join from anywhere. Please email us at info@indivisible-ma.org.

MORNING COFFEE ACTIONS

Actions you can do while enjoying your morning cup!
Speak Out for Detained Bahamian Child Kaytora Paul
After fleeing Hurricane Dorian with her aunt, Kaytora Paul, a 12-year-old Bahamian girl, has been separated from her family and put in detention. Her mother has been told she has to apply to claim her, a process that can take longer than the time she is permitted to stay here and requires documents that probably have been destroyed. Let’s urge DHS to reunite Kaytora Paul with her parents as soon as possible.

Vaping vs Gun Control?
Following six deaths due to vaping, the Trump administration is moving to ban flavored e-cigarettes to protect children. Let’s let our members of congress know that we expect the same level of protection when it comes to the risk of our children being killed in a mass shooting. Let’s also let Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell know that we expect him to call a vote on HR 8.

McCready Effort Sets the Stage for Success in 2020
From the Swing Left Greater Boston newsletter.
"We were not successful last night, but I want you to remember: victory postponed is not defeat ... Our mission to bring our country together was never a mission that could be accomplished in a single election. We may not have won this campaign, but there is no doubt in my mind that our efforts over the last 27 months moved our country forward."

Dan McCready's concession speech did not look back, it looked forward, and so will we.

Per NBC News, "If Trump were to replicate Bishop's performance all over the state next November, he'd clearly lose North Carolina — a state critical to his re-election path."

As volunteers, we have to remember that Dan McCready's loss was tiny, 2% in a district that went for Trump by 17%. Much of this success was due to volunteer efforts. In the last month before the election, dedicated supporters knocked on well over 10,000 doors. One hundred Swing Left Greater Boston members made calls to voters, and many more donated to the campaign and wrote letters.

Among the many effective local organizers were Holly Wood from Swing Left Charlotte, Carolyn Eberly from Indivisible NC-09, and Lisa Walker. These three supercharged volunteers continue to organize grassroots networks in the Charlotte suburbs. Let’s support their efforts to turn NC-09 Blue!

Antonio Delgado (NY-19) Named Most Active and Effective Congressperson
Some Indivisible groups in MA supported Antonio Delgado in NY-19 and were elated when he won in 2018. He's facing re-election in 2020, and his team recently sent out this email.

When Antonio Delgado first ran for Congress, he promised to be accessible and accountable to the people -- not special interests.

Since the election, Antonio has held 23 town halls and opened five district offices. And he's introduced or co-led 17 pieces of legislation that tackle everything from making healthcare more affordable and protecting family farmers to combating climate change and taking on the opioid crisis.

It's been a lot of work, but that's the job you helped hire Antonio to do, and he couldn't do it without you fighting alongside him. So we have some exciting news to share with you on how your efforts have helped Antonio receive national recognition:

Quorum Analytics just named Antonio as one of the most active and effective members in all of Congress. From all of us at Antonio Delgado for Congress, thank you! Take a moment to reflect on everything you've done to help Antonio receive this recognition. You've earned this moment too.

The Republicans have already recruited three opponents to run against Antonio, and the GOP already has a Super PAC attacking Antonio with falsehoods about his record.

They will not share the news with voters about how he is one of the most active and effective members in Congress. That's okay. It's not their job to do that.

It's on us to make sure voters know how Antonio is fighting for them. If you can, please chip in to help us share this news with voters across the district.
Host a Letter-Writing Party to GOTV in VA
Swing Left and Vote Forward have launched a national campaign to get 150,000 letters to Democratic voters in Virginia in advance of the November 2019 election.

Virginia was home of the blue wave: In 2017, Democrats won 15 seats in the House of Delegates, nearly flipping the chamber and representing the most diverse freshman class ever in Virginia’s history! We now need to protect the seats we gained last cycle, and to flip just two seats in each chamber (the House of Delegates and the State Senate). The GOP is putting up a fight.

Hosting a letter-writing party is easy. Join more than 100 party hosts who have made it happen using this streamlined kit.

Force Multiplier Event for FL-26, live in Brookline and Streamed in Canton
Join committed Democrats from Canton, Westwood, Dedham, and neighboring towns at an event to hold the House and help win the Presidency.

Both? At a single event? How?

By supporting incumbent Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in Florida’s 26th Congressional District, where Florida is one of five states most likely to flip and help a Democrat win the Presidency in 2020.

Debbie was part of the Blue Wave in 2018, when she flipped FL-26. Her 2020 race is one of  about 20 key races, of which Democrats must win about half to hold the House.

Meet Debbie in person at a Force Multiplier event in Brookline or via a live feed of the event in Canton. Streaming this event is a pilot project, which Force Multiplier hopes to expand for the 2020 election!

Debbie convinced 40,000 voters in FL26 to flip from voting Republican in 2016 to voting Democrat in 2018, while Trump only won Florida by 110,000 votes in 2016.

By supporting Debbie, you are helping someone who knows how to persuade swing voters in a crucial swing state by promoting sensible, progressive values. She will campaign not only for herself but also for the Democratic Presidential candidate.

Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right's Stealth Plan for America
by Nancy MacLean
“[A] vibrant intellectual history of the radical right . . . [MacLean] has dug deep into her material—not just Buchanan’s voluminous, unsorted papers, but other archives, too—and she has made powerful and disturbing use of it all. . . . The behind-the-scenes days and works of Buchanan show how much deliberation and persistence—in the face of formidable opposition—underlie the anti-governing politics ascendant today.
