Something Positive for Positive People
After learning there were people diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection who contemplated suicide because of their positive status, Courtney Brame began to find and share stories of people living with STDs as a safe way for people to receive support. A study taken by Something Positive for Positive People, a nonprofit 501c3 that provides support & resources to those navigating an STI diagnosis, found that of 110 participants, 98% expressed experiencing depression and 6% contemplated suicide because of their diagnosis. Participants expressed that this resource has helped them feel educated and understanding of stigma, self-empowered to advocate for themselves and their bodies/sexual health, and overall have a sense of support and community by connecting with the stories shared on the podcast. Something Positive for Positive People, the podcast, is an intentionally inclusive hub of sex positive resources that includes stories of people living with STIs as well as sexuality experts, medical professionals, sexual wellness organizations and sex educators. Our goal is to empower people living with STIs to advocate for themselves by providing emotional support post-diagnosis.
