SleepSafe Launches

One consistent request since starting StreetSmart has been for funding to cover the cost of bedding and personal essentials at grassroots emergency accommodation services. This week we launched our new campaign SleepSafe, in close collaboration with Sheridan, to help fill this gap.

SleepSafe has been 18months in development with an amazingly dedicated team at Sheridan HQ, who are genuinely committed to helping people experiencing homelessness in the communities in which they operate. Through SleepSafe we will provide linen and towel sets to help care for vulnerable people coming through these services and allow their teams to get on with their important work. As Mark Goodie, CEO at Merri Outreach Support Service, said
“These are absolutely needed. Sheets and towels are often an item that people cannot afford and is forgotten in the trauma of negotiating the homelessness system. A really great idea!!”

SleepSafe Launches

Our new SleepSafe campaign is now live at 83 Sheridan shops and online. Our aim is to raise funds to provide bedding and towel sets for individuals and families accessing crisis and temporary accommodation services in the communities where Sheridan operate.

CafeSmart 2019 - What a Day

On Friday 9th August we partnered up with over 825 businesses to hold our 9th CafeSmart Day. Huge thanks to everyone who supported the day & drank a few extra coffees!

The tally is up to $145,000 and rising everyday, so keep an eye out for updates on social media.

DineSmart 2019 Dates Set

Sixteen years ago we set up StreetSmart to partner with the hospitality industry & run our very first DineSmart campaign. We asked diners to chip in a small donation on their bill which would go towards supporting smaller, local, homeless services. We haven't changed that ask, because restaurants & diners respond each year and get behind the event. To date we have raised over $4.5 million & funded 100's of critical services through DineSmart.

In 2019 DineSmart will run 21st Nov - 31st Dec and we are starting to reach out and talk to potential partners and participants.

StreetFunder Reaches $300,000 Milestone

StreetFunder is our monthly giving initiative where regular and once off givers support a different response to homelessness each month.

Since its launch in late 2016 we have now raised over $300,000 for 56 projects.

In July StreetFunders raised funds to highlight the regional homelessness crisis & support Tamworth Family Support Services with $5,305 for their youth services. In August we raised $7,175 for the Haymarket Foundation in Sydney who are on the front line of street homelessness, and the housing and mental health crisis.

“Women come to our service with no belongings. We provide all of the linen and towels, so SleepSafe is definitely needed. We are not funded to cover these costs and this comes out of donated funds. SleepSafe will free up the money we are currently spending on towels and linen for other important areas such as medical, education and transport.”
