Writing desk in old farmhouse
My favorite writing spot at A Land of Grass ranch. Photo by Michelle Rau

Full circle
It is so appropriate that I started my home improvement series at a desk littered with painting debris. For years I'd hoped to sit down and write at this window in Grandma's House, the 1906 farmhouse at A Land of Grass ranch, my friend Lisa's place in Montana. You should write about what you're passionate about, and I'm passionate about home improvement!

In February 2018, I wrote about publishing a cartoon zine in It ain't Kansas, Toto, it's Lana's World on Medium. A zine and cartoon researcher recently contacted me and I agreed to make the publication available online. Figuring out how to do this is my current project (so far it's looking like a Kindle comic book is the best option). Funny how these creative efforts from so long ago keep popping up, oh, every 30 years or so.

I'm still having fun with my Patreon account. It feels great to be doodling again, and it feels even better to share.

And other home improvement principles I live by. The first post in what will surely be a series about my enthusiasm for home improvement, the things I've learned and the funny stories I can share.

Whoa dude that's some big sky

There was a big block notepad and a pen on the table at my friend's house at the ranch. So tempting.....I could not resist.

Past my bedtime: The Secrets of Harry Bright by Joseph Wambaugh

Many years ago I read The Choirboys by Joseph Wambaugh before I was old enough to fully understand it, but its rude humor captivated me. On a whim, I decided to read Harry Bright, a cold case based in the southern California desert. Nonstop character sketches and anecdotes get in the way of the story a little, but are immensely entertaining.
