Hello Indivisibles!

Show up this Tuesday for a Defund Hate Rally:

Defund Hate Rally on Tuesday, September 10th, 12:00 PM in front of Congressman Garamendi’s office, 412 G St., Davis, CA 95616

Join Indivisible's Week of Action to #defundhate. We will not stand by while ICE and CBP commit human rights abuses in our names and with our tax dollars. See the campaign info here: https://defundhate.indivisible.org/#lp-pom-button-220

In July, Rep. Garamendi voted to pass Mitch McConnell's unamended bill to increase funding to CBP and ICE. Now, ICE is building more detention camps. The government is trying to detain families indefinitely. They are rejecting the minimal protections that require them to treat detained children with basic decency.

Congress must fund the government by Sept. 30. Part of this is allocating funding for ICE and CBP. On Sept. 10, tell Rep. Garamendi that we cannot accept one dollar more for the cruel and unnecessary detention of immigrants who pose no threat to our communities. It is both cheaper and more humane to release them to friends and family.

Join Jewish Action NorCal, Indivisible Yolo, and local immigrant advocates to send a strong message to our Congressman.

More information and the Action Tool Kit are here: https://sites.google.com/view/jewishactionnorcal/sept-10-rally-to-defund-hate

Please note:
1) The event will be a safe, orderly, and legal one. There will be people who need to use the sidewalk to get where they are going, so we must be considerate of them and keep space for them. G is a large busy street and we need to be careful to stay out of it.

2) Bring your signs to send a message, and sign up for the next step once we are done!

See you soon!

The next General Meeting is Monday, September 30th, 7:00-8:30pm @ Raley's, 367 West Main St., Woodland, CA 95695

Meetings are the last Monday of every month. We alternate between Woodland and Davis. New members are always welcome!

2) Call Rep. Garamendi during the Week of Action to Defund Hate

Sample call script (your own words are best!)

Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I’m calling from [CITY/ZIP CODE]. I’m calling today because I am very concerned about ICE’s plan to pull millions of dollars from other agencies to fund its detention and deportation activities.
I’m calling today to ask Congressman Garamendi to take action to oppose this “reprogramming” of Department of Homeland Security Funds. Specifically, I would like the Congressman to:

  • Publicly denounce DHS’s transfer and reprogramming notification.
  • Release the full text of the transfer and reprogramming notification, so that we know exactly where the money being transferred to ICE is coming from.
  • Pass a fiscal year 2020 spending bill that finally puts an end to DHS’s ability to manipulate the appropriations process to expand the immigration detention and deportation systems.
CA state action:

Ask State Sen. Dodd to support AB 1482 Background:

(Info via the Courage Campaign) Currently, over half of California's renters have to pay over 1/3 of their income on rent, which is unsustainable for the health and well-being of families, our economy, and our environment. We can't afford to wait any longer for change.

AB 1482 will establish an annual rent cap and require landlords to provide a reason (just cause) for eviction, reducing the hardship, displacement, and homelessness harming Californians. The bill is currently in the Senate and your senator needs to know that there's widespread support for it from everyday Californians.
