Rallysprint for 2020?
Meeting agenda
Minutes from July
MLRC had Black Bear performance rally on July 13 but only had six cars entered and only two finished. It was a tight battle between the two at the end but the KWRC team of Eric Vlasic and Sean McConnachie (in his first performance rally) lost out to Matt Ballinger & Bruce Leonard by 1.4 seconds after an hour and twenty minutes of stages.

We had our third SNATR and BBQ on July 21st. The weather was good and we had 10 cars turn out with a few extra people for the BBQ.   Results are here

The next weekend was our third Rallycross of the year and this time we tried an afternoon & evening event. The hope was to avoid the hottest sun of the day around noon so the water we applied to reduce the dust wouldn't evaporate as fast.  Running in the evening was interesting and some people liked the challenge but it didn't do as much to reduce dust as we hoped. Also, for some of the workers is turned what is normally a day and a half commitment to almost three days with the cleanup on Sunday morning. We needed to try the plan out but I don't think we'll do that format again.

As usual these days the event sold out quickly. The track added a new twist with an extra 200 meters added to the course with a "keyhole" turn that added to the interest. Congratulations to Masami Kinoshita for the overall win and to Gary Sutherland for a close second overall and first in 2WD. Results are here
We skipped the August meeting if favour of going Karting on August 8th  and 19 members were there to battle the karts, the track and each other. There was some hard racing and if I remember correctly Eric Vlasic took top honours.
PMSC had a Rallycross on August 10 with Matt Tregunno taking third overall. They had 19 cars running but I see for their September 14th event they are full at 31 cars. Results are here

Our fourth Rallycross was August 17th and while setup on Friday and early Saturday morning was dry about 19mm or rain dumped on the ground just after 9:00AM. With the clay base it made quite a mess but we managed to set up a track without the big oval and while it was incredibly muddy for the first run it started to dry up fairly quickly and the times went down accordingly.  With the later start waiting for things to dry up and some people needing to get home we only did four scored runs but then had a fun run for those that wanted to stay. Thank you to the workers and competitors for working together to salvage an event that could have been cancelled. Congratulations to Matt for first overall and Grant a storming drive to second overall and first 2wd 12 seconds behind Matt. Results are here

Just a week after that was our fourth SNATR organized by Brandon & Roger. Brandon was co-driving at the rallysprint that day so we had to do without him but things went well.
We had fourteen cars with the headquarters at the Red Harp in Acton. We had to make some last minute route changes with a bunch of roads closed for paving but for the most part the scores were quite low. Thanks to Brandon, Roger & Lynda for organizing, Steve, Teresa, Alan & Carolyn, Jeff & Cheryl and Frank & Rebecca for checkpoints. Results are here.

I mentioned that MLRC had the first rallysprint of the series the same day with 12 cars running on the Loom Lake road. KWRC's Zoltan Kovacs & David Koiter took first overall, Curtis Antoine & Liam Schnurr took second. Brandon, co-driving for Dave Cotie was sixth and 3rd 2wd. Andrew Miller & David Bell DNF'd  with electrical problems.  I don't have a link to the results but the series scores are on the RSO page.

That was a lot of events to cover. Now I know where the summer went.

Upcoming is our meeting on September 12th,. Our Rallycross school is on October 5th.and the final Rallycross of the year is on October 6th. As I write this missive on September 8th. They are both sold out.  http://www.kwrc.on.ca/kw_events/rallycross-school-2019/

We've moved our final two SNATR's around so we don't have one in September but SNATR #5 in on November 9th. organized by Gord and Phil. It's going to be interesting with the start near Brantford and the finish at the Erie Beach Hotel in Port Dover. The Erie Beach is famous for their perch dinner, you wouldn't want to miss that. Details are at http://www.kwrc.on.ca/kw_events/snatr-5-2019/

SNATR #6 is November 30, the week after Tall Pines. It runs in conjunction with leg A of the ORRC Northern Lights. It's organized by Murray & Ian and the ORRC starts & finishes in Mount Forest, The SNATR finishes at Tim Hortons in Hanover. SNATR details are here  and  ORRC are here

Now down to the meeting this week.

Apart from covering the events of the past two months and planning for the ones upcoming we need to get moving on next years calendar.  How many events do we want and when do we want to do them.

I had a casual inquiry from PMSC wondering if we wanted to take over their rallysprint for 2020. They run at the Burnt River Off-road facility which since it is private takes away the possibility of civilians getting on the course. I wondered if doing it in early March as a winter event was possible. As I said, it was more of an informal question rather than a direct handover so we need to discus if we want to take it on and the logistics of doing so. Then we can see if PMSC wants someone else to organize the event. We have a history of working on events with them.

Meeting Agenda:
-Welcome & sign in
-Minutes from July (below)
-Old business
--Past events as discussed above
--Update on Varney

-Treasurers Report

-New Business
--Upcoming events
--Lunches for School & Rallycross
--2020 Calendar

KWRC MEETING MINUTES  July 11, 2019

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm

Attendance - As per sign in list

Old Business

A.  We will re-visit the Varney track opportunity for Rallycross later in the year if the ground dries up, currently not feasible as per the owner as it is too wet. We are looking at October or perhaps the winter as an opportunity to have a Rallycross at this venue.

B. Don't forget that the instead of the August club meeting we will be going karting. There is a sign up sheet and registration online. It will start at 6:00 pm. The club subsidizes this event and there is always a nice turnout. See you there!

2. Treasurer s Report

                                 The club is solvent.

3. New Business

Our SNATR and BBQ  will be held on Sunday July 21, 2019 ending at Pinehurst Conservation for the club BBQ. Maple Leaf is running a Rallycross event on the same day. Some members have indicated that they will not be attending our event as they will be participating in the Rallycross at the Markham Fairgrounds.
1.    Also our next Rallycross will be held on July 27, 2019.The registration will start at 3:30,. Jeff will walk the track to ensure the arrows on the barrels are in the right direction to avoid any miscommunication on the track as per members feedback. We will BBQ for the competitors and volunteers and have a quick break for everyone. Let's see how this even goes in terms of the dust, need for water truck.
2.    Black Bear will be held on the weekend of July 13, 2019. The club will be represented by Zoltan Kovacs and hopefully others.
3.    Martin paid a visit to the PMSC Rallycross at Burnt River and determined that the course is much different than the KWRC events in terms of the course layout and speed of the event, more like a stage rally road.
4.    The club is going ahead with a Rally school for the weekend of October 5/6, 2019 which will tie into the last Rallycross event for the club on October 6, 2019. The weekend will consist of the school on October 5, 2019 followed by the Rallycross event on the 6th. More to come on this at the September club meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:32 by Frank and seconded by Steve.
