September 2019 Newsletter
Hello everyone! We are just back from an incredible trip/vacation and ready to roll. I posted a quick video of some highlights from the trip that you can view on You Tube. Just type in Vikki McGee Yellowstone 2019 to check it out. Did you write any songs while you were gone you ask? Yes we did! We wrote two new songs, one of which will be featured at the ASALH, Association For The Study of African American Life and History conference in South Carolina, the first week of October. It is a song written about the friendship of my Great Grandfather, Denus McGee, the Dean of Cajun music and Amadee Ardoin, The Father of Creole Music. You can You Tube both of their names if you are interested in their history. We will also be presenting our songs, Carolina Witness Trees and Uncle Alfred at the conference. Special thanks to Dr.’s Elista and Moriah Istre for asking us to be part of their presentation. It is going to be magical :) (Moriah’s words :) )
Sonny also wrote a new song that I will feature once I get all the photos and video together from our trip to Yellowstone. It is titled, “Will You Go With Me?” and it is my new favorite. We will be recording it soon.
We have several chances for you to catch a show this month. This weekend starts it off with the opening of the all new Skinny J’s in Conway!!!! On Friday night. If you are planning on being there I suggest you get reservations. We are wanting to fill it up. Then on Saturday catch a rare full band show at the Poinsett County Fair in Harrisburg with Sonny Campbell, Jim Little, Jacob Brumley and Kierra Forrester. We also have a special guest, Ms. Ava Little. You don’t want to miss it.
Here are a few more pics from the trip. It really was amazing. A couple of favorite highlights of the trip shown here, was getting to spend time with Alex, we were treated to a cowboy cookout, which was an awesome experience, thanks to Will and Alex for making that happen. :) and on the way back home we stopped in Macy, Nebraska on the Omaha reservation, where my Dad used to hunt and my brother, John still does, to meet with Galen Aldrich. He showed us around the reservation, told us stories of My family hunting there and some of their shenanigans, more of that than hunting, lol. Beyond the sunflower picture is a field where there is a memorial to My Dad where he used to hunt. The road was washed out and we couldn’t get to it, but I was grateful to Galen for hanging out with us and sharing his stories. It was a beautiful day and Sonny and I were moved by the experience. Galen is truly a beautiful soul and I know why he and my brother are so close and why our Dad loved him and hunting there so much.
Like I said earlier, I have so many pics and videos, but it will take some time and I will let you know when it is ready to be viewed.
