Marty's Message: Graduate Programs Continue to Grow

We are finding ways to grow in the College of Professional Studies, especially in our graduate degree offerings. In the past five years, we have increased our graduate student enrollment from 167 to 415. With a second MBA cohort, addition of new certification programs, expected increase in the Master's in Athletic Training and start of the Doctor of Physical Therapy, we project enrollments well over 600 in the near future.

Our first MBA classes met last week with a cohort of 46 students – meet them here! It is being delivered simultaneously to students on all three of our campuses using a hybrid delivery model that combines online, on air and face-to-face teaching.

Speaking of the DPT, we received approvals from UW System and HLC and are in the queue for CAPTE approval with a 2022 start date.

These programs, plus a new graduate certificate program in Health and Wellness Coaching and continued success of all our grad programs, are making for exciting times!

As students returned to campus and classes began Sept. 3, we found out what these Pointers want to be when they grow up.

MBA program launches on all three campuses

After years of planning, the UW-Stevens Point MBA program officially began with more than 46 students attending classes in Stevens Point, Marshfield and Wausau.

FCS student serves children through summer internship

Senior Jessica Enstad was among many CPS students interning this summer. The family and consumer sciences student was able to put her passion for helping kids into practice through an internship at the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County. Read More

Anderson Classroom to Career Center prepares for opening

Set to open this fall, construction is underway on the new Keith '85 and Tammy Anderson Classroom to Career Center on the first floor of the CPS Building. The C2C Center will provide a hub for internships, advising, events and more for School of Business and Economics students. A grand opening is set for Oct. 4. View Photos

Local schools begin Wellness Breaks program

UW-Stevens Point faculty are expanding the traditional “brain breaks” concept through a new collaborative Wellness Breaks program with local school districts. The year-long program is facilitated by Prof. Corey Huck along with School of Education faculty Kym Buchanan, Tim Wright and Ann Hockett. Watch Video

Education alumni making sports headlines

Zach Bitter '08 broke TWO WORLD RECORDS in one day as he ran the fastest time ever in the 100 mile distance and then broke his own 12-hour time world record.

JP Feyereisen '14 was recently traded to the Milwaukee Brewers from the New York Yankees.

Cadets complete summer training across the country

From becoming a paratrooper at Airborne School at Fort Benning to graduating from Advanced Camp at Fort Knox to earning Air Assault wings at Fort Campbell, see how our ROTC cadets spent their summers. View Photos

St. Croix Chippewa Head Start screenings

A group of speech-language pathology and audiology students, along with Professors Tonya Veith and Pam Terrell, recently traveled to the St. Croix Chippewa Reservation in western Wisconsin to conduct hearing, speech, language and literacy screenings on children enrolling in Head Start. View Photos

Local schools begin Wellness Breaks program

Led by Prof. Sterling Wall, 21 students completed a 10-day study away trip to Puerto Rico in August. Not only did they put in hundreds of volunteer hours at the Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society by painting and cleaning, three students were invited to join in during an emotional moment as a patient was consulted for her wig. UWSP ranked among top 10 Midwest public universities

UW-Stevens Point is ranked 10th among 34 regional public universities in the 12 states in its Midwest region, according to U.S. News and World Report. The university also three additional rankings of public and private institutions in the Midwest: Best Value, Top Performers on Social Mobility and Top Schools for Veterans. Read More
