The Bi-Weekly News of Paradise Valley Christian Preparatory

Thank You!

Thanks to everyone who joined us in support of the upper school ultimate frisbee team in their first-ever home game held on the campus of PVCP! We had a great turnout for the jamboree celebration, and we'd like to thank Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers for being on hand with some great giveaways and lemonade! The ultimate team encourages you to show your support at future games by wearing a white shirt and blue pants or shorts. Be sure to check out the online athletic calendar and come on out to support all of our Panther teams!

The 2019 Virtual Auction Is Coming!

Like last year, we are conducting a 100% online virtual auction. This year’s auction will run for three weeks from November 16 to December 7, with item closing dates staggered throughout that period. We’re asking all families to consider what connections you have to assist us in the item acquisition process. In particular, we need several large-scale items, such as out-of-town getaways or staycation packages. We can always use gift cards to restaurants and other fun activities as well. Please contact Mr. Nyhart at bnyhart@pvcp.org if you have any leads or are willing to donate an item.

To assist you in this process, acquisition letters, donation forms, and acquisitions ideas are available online.

All students whose families donate an item by October 14 can choose a free dress day or a homework pass to be used on one assignment (pending teacher discretion)! Simply bring in your item to Kris Chadwick at the front desk by October 14 to be eligible.

Academic Calendar

The annual academic calendar is available online here if you would like to print one to have on hand. Please note, this is a general academic calendar and does not include class-specific events, fundraising activities, or every PAC event. Dates of specific events will be communicated as they are settled.

Love and Logic Parent Series

Everyone says they want to raise responsible children capable of owning and solving their own problems, but did you know that some of the things you do instinctively as a parent might actually be a hindrance to your child's growth in this area?

Join other PVCP parents for a six-week parenting class on the benefits of incorporating the principles of Love and Logic into your family. Classes will be led former PVCP teacher Shelly Bottle, a trained Love and Logic facilitator. The $70 cost includes a workbook and childcare. Please note, outside families are welcome, but the cost is $90, and childcare is excluded. Classes run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the following dates: 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, and 11/19.  RSVP by calling 602-992-8140, ext. 2211.

Hot Lunch Program

Lunches must be ordered and prepaid through the parent portal in Praxi. Lunches are ordered between the 1st and 15th of the month PRIOR to the month for which you are placing orders. Example: September lunches are ordered between the 1st and 15th of August. Please double-check the menu month when ordering lunches. If an order is attempted after the 15th, Praxi will only show the next available month to order. Example: If you go to place a lunch order between August 16th and 31st, the menu will default to October. Additionally, please check your student's class schedule and school calendar when placing lunches. No refunds will be given for lunches placed on days when your student is on a class trip, half days, and no school days.

Jamba Juice

Refreshing Jamba Juice is back!  The price is $3 for a 10 oz cup. Jamba Juice can be purchased at the playground during lunch periods on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month (excluding any "no school" days or holidays) The next two deliveries are September 19 and October 3.

Spiritwear Deliveries

Spiritwear orders should arrive on campus this week. You will be contacted as soon as the orders are ready for pick up. Please pick up your items as soon as possible after being notified. Thank you!

Dress Code Reminder

Please review the dress and hairstyle codes from the handbook. Dress and hair violations will be noted by the teachers and a form will be sent home to the parents for acknowledgment. There is grace at the beginning of the school year for late uniform arrivals. Please let the teachers know if this is the case. Remember, the new requirement this year is that outerwear must have a school logo or be from a school sponsored event (Lands' End, Dennis, Spiritwear, Catalina Trip, etc.) Thank you for your cooperation!

$2 Jeans Day

$2 Jeans Days are a PAC fundraiser that supports PVCP teachers, their classrooms, and the school. The next Jean's Day is October 4. There are ten Jeans Days in the school year. You may fill out this form and pay the full amount of $20 by coming into the office. Alternatively, if children wear jeans on a $2 Jeans Day and have not pre-paid, they may pay their teacher the exact change of $2.

Dress Code Requirements for $2 Jeans Day: Uniforms, PVCP logo shirts, or Spirit Wear t-shirts may be worn and do not need to be tucked in. No belts are necessary. Only black or blue denim is permitted in 1st through 8th grade, while upper school may wear any color of jeans. Jeans may not have holes, rips, or tears. No cutoffs or tattered jeans are permitted. Denim capris, uniform length shorts, or skirts may also be worn. When in doubt, check your student's planner.

STEMSS

Come join Arizona State University for a special STEMSS (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Social Studies) activity hub in Room 306 on October 4, the evening of the school picnic, at 5:30 p.m. Journey with your students through different engineering stations to solve problems, explore creative ways to develop solutions to real-world questions, and travel across the earth's seven continents using an interactive map. All ages are invited for this time of exploration and learning!

Square 1 Art

The annual Square 1 Art opportunity is almost here! If your student is working on a beautiful piece of art, please consider sending it to Mrs. Guy at your earliest convenience. The deadline for submitted artwork is Monday, September 23. You will get your child’s artwork printed on a FREE sheet of stickers, and you will receive a catalog so that you may order the artwork printed on a variety of great items. Not only do items make unique Christmas gifts, but a portion of the proceeds benefits the PVCP Art Department. Please contact Mrs. Guy at rguy@pvcp.org for more information.

Moms in Prayer and BBOC

God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present
help in our time of need.  -
Psalm 46:1

Moms in Prayer meets in the schoolhouse on Wednesdays from 8:15 - 9:30 a.m. and Big Boys on Campus (BBOC) meets in the Schoolhouse on Fridays from 8:15 - 9:15 a.m. These are two powerful prayer groups for the school and our families. Please come and join anytime that you are available. If you would like more information or have a prayer request, please contact Kim (Moms in Prayer) at mnkgood97@gmail.com or Pastor Neamtu (BBOC) at dorumineamtu@cox.net.

Athletic Reminders

Remember, a Parent Consent/Insurance Card Form and an Athletic Physical Examination Form must be turned into the PVCP front office prior to practicing with the team. Once a roster spot has been determined, a signed participation form along with payment must be dropped off at the school front office. A player will not be allowed to participate in a game/match until payment has been arranged with the front office. These forms can be found on the PVCP website on the Panthers Athletics page here.

A PVCP Sports Calendar is also on the athletics page showing athletic events. Practice schedules will not be placed on the PVCP Sports Calendar. Our coaches will communicate practice schedules to the players. Make sure to check the PVCP Sports Calendar frequently as games are subject to change due to league decisions.

Lost and Found

Lost and found is already overflowing. Please check out both locations for any missing items. The lost and found items are located in the lower school building and in Founders Hall (just behind the main office). Smaller valuables will be held in the front office. Items will be set out on display the last Wednesday of each month. However, you may look for items anytime before or after school or by checking in to the front office during school hours. Items not claimed at the end of each month will be donated.

Extracurricular Activities at PVCP

Mrs. Guy's Art Studio: K - 5th grade meets Thursdays beginning September 5, from 3 to 4 p.m. (drawing and painting); 6th - 12th grade, Tuesdays beginning September 3 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. (multimedia art). All classes meet in room 203. The cost is $50 for a 4-week session. Sessions run all year long. For more information and registration contact Mrs. Guy at rguy@pvcp.org.

Señora Walker's International Club - UPDATE: Due to the large number of enrolled students for International Club, it is now held at the Schoolhouse instead of the Spanish classroom. Parents, please pick up your child at 4 p.m. from the Schoolhouse (located just south of the school office). The class is full, however, you may be put on a waiting list if you are interested. The club is for 1st - 5th grade (5th grade only if you have been in the class before), and it meets on Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. The cost is $20 per month and includes all snacks and materials. This is a great time to play games from other countries, watch and understand cartoons in Spanish, and taste and make delicious foods, treats, candies, and ice cream from faraway. Please contact Señora Walker for information and registration at lwalker@pvcp.org.

Free Speech and Language Screenings

Cynthia Dundas will be administering speech and language screenings for Pre-K through 1st Grade on Tuesday, September 17, during school hours. If your child is not at school on that day, please contact Cynthia Dundas at cdundas3@gmail.com to schedule a screening.

Tax Credit Information

PVCP works with several School Tuition Organizations to help make a private, Christian education as affordable as possible for our families. See a full listing of STO's with which PVCP works here.

When making a contribution or soliciting a donation, designate PVCP or a specific PVCP student other than your own child as the recipient. If you've not yet signed up to be the recipient of funds from one of these organizations, make sure to submit the required paperwork by the deadlines.

Remember, you must apply each year to STOs for tax credits. Please check each STO for their application dates for the 2019-2020 school year.

Arizona Private School Tuition Organization (APSTO)

Dorina Wilson, PVCP PE teacher, also serves as a tax credit advocate for PVCP. If you have questions about how to utilize tax credits to reduce the cost of your tuition, she is available and willing to discuss with you how one School Tuition Organization, APSTO, is able to assist. Additionally, if you own a business with an Arizona tax liability, talk to Dorina to learn how you can support Christian education while reducing your Arizona tax burden. Dorina is available Mondays and Thursdays from 8:20 to 9 a.m. and again from 3:10 to 4 p.m. in the Schoolhouse. She is also available by appointment. Please email her at dwilson@pvcp.org.

PVCP Business Office Reminders

All tuition payments are due the first of the month.  Late fees will be applied on the 5th of the month. The office will accept cash or check in person, but card payments must be made through the parent portal. If you have any questions, please see Angie Lucas in the business office or email her at alucas@pvcp.org.
