Terps Leave Small Footprints at University of Maryland.

The University Sustainability Fund has approximately $300,000 available this year for projects that promote environmental sustainability and positively impact the student experience at University of Maryland.  
 
The priority deadline for applications is Tuesday, October 15 with a final deadline of Wednesday, January 15.  
 
Since 2011, more than $2 million has been granted to 137 sustainability projects including Terp Farm, the Sphagnum Moss Water Treatment System at Eppley Recreation Center, the Partnership for Action Learning in Sustainability (PALS), campus lighting upgrades, rain gardens, and research projects.

Dining Services has launched several initiatives to reduce plastic waste and create an Ocean Friendly Campus at UMD. Paper straws, paper bags, compostable utensils, and paper stirrers have replaced plastics in campus shops and cafes. Also, a free reusable bag is available for each student with an Anytime Dining plan. 
The Terp Transportation Fair will take Tuesday, September 24 at Hornbake Plaza from 10:30am-2:30pm. Event highlights include VeoRide safety demos and the Bicycle Recycle refurbished bike sale. DOTS staff will be available to answer your questions related to parking, Shuttle-UM, Smart Commute, and BikeUMD.
A YouTube show founded by a College of Agriculture & Natural Resources student to encourage quick, healthy and practical meal preparation is back for another serving. The newest episodes of “Terps vs. Pros: Sustainable Food Challenge,” again pits a student against a Dining Services chef in a cooking competition. Terps vs. Pros is a project funded by a grant from the Sustainability Fund that provides students with creative solutions to improving food security in the student community.
There are lots of opportunities this semester to get involved with the Arboretum & Botanical Garden! Sign-up to go on a Walk with an Arborist, lend a hand at the Community Learning Garden or volunteer for a service event!
