A new academic year...

GC welcomes new students!
In late August, GC welcomed 65 new first-year students into our community. Our top-notch Welcome Team of returning second-year students supported new students make the move into Dorchester Hall on August 22. The following day, new students and second year student leaders set forth into Washington DC for  our annual Amazing Race. Despite the unfavorable weather, everyone enjoyed getting to know each other while visiting global sites near the National Mall. Cheers to the 2019-2020 academic year!

Alumni Spotlight

Congratulations! Jacqueline Betro (GC '12 cohort) and Alex Doquang (GC '11 cohort) recently became engaged while visiting Cappadocia, Turkey. The two first met as GC residents in Dorchester Hall  and both were active leaders in the Global Communities Student Association (GCSA). The couple currently reside in New York City, where Jackie is a Health Policy MPA Candidate at NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and Alex is a Data & Analytics Consultant at Slalom.

Recent GC Events
First-year GCers explored the ethics of globally-focused service-learning by volunteering at PG County's annual Hispanic Festival at Lane Manor Park, just steps away from campus. Service at the festival has become an integral academic component of our required course, BSGC100- Introduction to Global Communities.

GC teamed up with the College of Letters and Sciences to host a welcome event for globally-minded students at Stamp Student Union's TerpZone. Students took part in free bowling and billiards, and of course, free pizza!
Our director, Dr. Virginia Haufler, set the course for the new academic year at our annual Fall Convocation. New and returning GCers gathered together to learn about programming for the year, get details on our NEW Education Abroad scholarship program, and take part in our annual paper airplane launch. Check out the video here!

WHAT IS 'RISE'?

Do you have an active project that's focused on creating global impact? Are you looking for additional support and resources to grow your reach?
