A New Season Begins

Your library team is gearing up for the new fall lineup of literacy programming.  It was a busy summer, and an even busier grant season, as we are finishing up all those reports and evaluations for the grant funds we received.  We are grateful for the added support of grants, businesses and individuals who make our learning programs possible. Here is a thank you video from two of our Learning Assistants.  Please watch for an upcoming job opportunity to be our Fall STEAM Assistant!  We look forward to serving you in the months ahead.
Please feel free to contact me any time at jperrin@townofjaffrey.com.
Kind regards, Julie M. Perrin, Library Director - a.k.a. Ms. Julie

A Few Upgrades

The fall will bring some upgrades to improve your library experience.
Thank you to the voters, the Town of Jaffrey and the folks at JDK Paving for our beautiful new driveway, that has improved drainage around the building and makes for a safer experience for all library visitors.
We are also happy to announce that Eversource and the Board of Trustees are sharing the costs for a new lighting retrofit to be completed in the weeks ahead that will significantly reduce our energy consumption.  Thanks for your patience as we do our best to have the work completed without disrupting service.
Lastly, you will see us shifting some spaces on the ground floor as we create a new staff workspace and new study rooms that you will be able to reserve for your study sessions, meetings, Skype interviews, etc. At last, we will have a place for you to make a phone call or have an online meeting!

Bookapalooza Everywhere!

You may recall that we were one of only three libraries in the U.S. to win the Bookapalooza grant from the Association for Library Services to Children.  Part of our grant was not only to update our youth book collection but also to share the books with children throughout the region.  In addition to providing free books for home libraries through our Halloween Book Giveaway, we have shared the 1000+ books with the following organizations and businesses where children wait: Jaffrey Family Medicine and Monadnock Community Hospital, Jaffrey Head Start, Jaffrey-Rindge SAU 47 Bookmobile, Shelter from the Storm, Jaffrey-Rindge Animal Hospital, Fieldstone Animal Hospital, TD Bank, People's United Bank, Added Touch Salon, Liberty Laundry, Tieger Realty, Posh Abilities, Clothesline Laundromat, Monadnock Dental Associates, and Jaffrey Eye Care.
We also provided books for the school buses of SAU 29 as part of their Reading on the Road program, and added books to the collections of several Monadnock libraries, as well as the Jaffrey Grade School library, and libraries in the Monadnock School SAU 93 district.
We are just so excited!  Visit our online Bookapalooza photo album for more pictures and look for the Bookapalooza book display to see all the beautiful books we have added to the library's collection.
The awesome staff at Jaffrey Family Medicine are helping us put #jplbookapalooza books in waiting rooms throughout the Monadnock community.
We had a wonderful time sharing our Bookapalooza bounty with all the librarians in the Nubanusit Library Coop!

Music of 1930s-50s with Al Brogdon

Thursday, September 19 at 11 am at the Jaffrey VFW
The library is pleased to bring another musical event to the HCS Friendly Meals program at the Jaffrey VFW. Musician Al Brogdon will provide music, playing his marching trombone and cornet with karaoke-style accompaniment.  He will perform the popular music from the 1930s to the 1950s, and he hopes you will join him on songs you grew up with!  Al has been playing brass instruments for 76 years, and especially likes Dixieland jazz, German oompah music, and the popular songs of the mid-20th century.
This event is free and open to the public.  Special thanks to the Friends of the Library for supporting our programs for the HCS Friendly Meals.

Please contact HCS Friendly Meals if you would like to make a reservation for the meal following the music program: 352-2253 or (800) 541-4145.

We do our best to answer your technology questions in the moment, but for longer questions, a dedicated time is helpful.  We are trying something new by offering a specific one-on-one time when we have arranged staffing so that the best staff person for your question is available to help you.  This time requires registration.

Do you have tiny, odd LEGOs under foot?

As we are preparing our new LEGO Challenges program, we find that we are in need of odd little LEGO pieces and shapes.  Have you cleaned up LEGOS and found an antenna, an eyeball, or a weirdly shaped piece that doesn't seem to belong?  We need those little odd pieces that get caught in your toes and vacuum cleaner!  Ms. Linda, our teen volunteers, and our future LEGO creators thank you!
