Future of Light Duty Vehicle Technologies Webinar Series

Safety Webinar: September 19 from 12:30-2:15 pm ET

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee is collecting information for its study on the cost and effectiveness of fuel efficiency technologies for light duty vehicles in the 2025-2035 time period. As part of the information gathering, we are hosting a webinar series to hear from a variety of public and private sector experts in particular technology topics. The next webinar will focus on the interaction between safety and fuel economy of passenger vehicles and will take place on September 19 from 12:30pm-2:15pm ET.  Learn more about the study at nas.edu/fueleconomy.

Workshop and Webcast: Computing, Communications, Cyber Resilience and the Future of the U.S. Electric Power System

Computing, communications, and information technologies have become essential in the planning and operation of our nation’s electricity system, a trend that is expected to increase in the future.  How can the advantages of new technologies be realized while mitigating cyber security and resilience risks?  Join the National Academies’ Committee on the Future of Electric Power in the U.S. on November 1, 2019 for a discussion of how cyber security issues could shape electric power systems over the next 30 years.  This workshop and webcast will synthesize current efforts to increase the cyber resilience of the electric power sector and discuss fundamental tensions that underlie adoption of computing and communication technologies, for example between centralized and decentralized architectures and responsibilities, between simple and complex technologies and systems, and between compliance versus security cultures.

Webinar Series: Big Data, Modeling, and Simulation in Urban Sustainability

Data, modeling, and simulations are critical to planning for and maintaining sustainable communities.  The National Academies organized a workshop and webcast in January 2019 that brought together an interdisciplinary network of practitioners, business leaders, academics, and policy makers using data for urban sustainability.  Building off the success of the workshop, we are excited to announce an upcoming webinar series in October 2019 where invited speakers will delve further into four important topic areas that emerged during the January workshop.

WEBINAR TOPICS:

Theoretical Approaches to Urban Planning
Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 4-5pm ET

Exploring New Data Sources and Investigating Privacy Issues
Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 4-5pm ET

Spatial-Temporal Modeling for Urban Analytics
Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 4-5pm ET

The Power and Limitations of Urban Analytics in Supporting Cities
Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 4-5pm ET
