Split Roll Tax Update

Californians To Stop Higher Property Taxes Members and Donors:

On August 13, proponents of the split-roll ballot measure already qualified for the November 2020 ballot admitted the measure is fatally flawed and submitted a new, revised version to the Secretary of State. This version, which is equally flawed, will likely cost proponents between $6-8 million just for signature gathering. In the meantime, they have refused to pull their currently qualified measure.

To support qualification of the measure, last week, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative poured another $1 million into the split roll campaign--a clear signal of the fight ahead. They have now contributed a total of $1.6 million. Both the California Teachers Association and SEIU have donated $500,000 each, and the committee supporting the measure now has collected more than $3.3 million.

At the same time, members of Californians To Stop Higher Property Taxes (CSHPT) continue to travel throughout the state to meet with prospective and current split roll opponents, sharing our strategy to defeat this $11 billion tax increase next year. We are on a major deadline by December 31st of this year to raise the funds that will show the governor, the Legislature and our opponents that we will have the resources to win. That is why we need your help.

We will continue to keep you updated in the weeks and months ahead. If you have any questions, please contact us.
