REDCOLLAR RESCUE does not shy away from the hard cases! At least 90% of the animals we rescue come direct from death row at the shelter. The dogs below are just a few of the medical cases we have taken in over the last few weeks, who have required thousands of dollars in vet bills!

MOGLI: Mogli is another sad victim of animal cruelty. He was intentionally burned by a sub-human being.

Mogli was transported to the ER and underwent daily wound care treatment for more than 2 weeks. This case is under investigation by the Harris County Animal Cruelty Task Force, and a suspect has been identified. We are hoping to see charges filed, and the perpetrator convicted and sentenced for such a heinous act. Mogli is approximately 3 years old and only 20 lbs, and is sweet and loving, despite his condition.

GILLIGAN and MARY ANN:  Gilligan and Mary Ann were brought to the shelter in the sweltering heat in the back of a pick-up truck, by their owner. Sadly, a third dog was with them, but was deceased upon arrival due to heat stroke. Gilligan and Mary Ann survived heat exhaustion, but they had other serious medical issues.

Mary Ann had a life threatening infection and severe anemia requiring a blood transfusion and emergency surgery. She was found to have an infected uterus and dead puppies in her wombWithout immediate surgery, Mary Ann would have died from sepsis.

Gilligan had an old nerve injury to his front right leg, which unfortunately could not be repaired, and required amputation. Gilligan and Mary Ann are both about 3 years old and 15 lbs, and ready for their forever homes!

MINNOW: Minnow was rescued on the same day as Gilligan and Mary Ann. Little Minnow was a wreck, just like the SS (sailing ship) Minnow! She ended up at the shelter on the kill list with a broken femur and wounds. We had not planned to take another dog that day, but she was about to be euthanized, and we just could not leave her behind. RCR and Save-a Pet partnered to save her!

Minnow went immediately to the vet where she had orthopedic surgery, and her leg was repaired with steel rods and pins. We are hoping for a quick recovery so she can walk and play again soon! Minnow is about 3 years old and only 10 lbs. She is still at the clinic, and is ready for a foster or forever home where she can get some much needed TLC.

COLLINS:  Collins was rescued one month ago with an embedded collar, sores all over her body, and a serious skin infection with no hair! She has been undergoing intensive treatment at the vet clinic, and is doing well! We are finally able to tell what color her hair is going to be! Collins is only 9 months old and 30 lbs. She is a typical sweet & happy pup ready to find a foster or forever home!

Poppy and her Pups:
Poppy was turned in to the shelter by her owner, in late term pregnancy. Poor girl was immediately placed on the kill list, as the shelters have no room to keep mom and pups. A wonderful volunteer stepped up to foster Poppy! A few days later, on July 4th, we were blessed with an adorable litter of 5 puppies! Appropriately named Liberty, Justice, Freedom, Spangle and Firecracker!

We had a big scare the next day as Justice, was not able to nurse because she was born with a cleft palate. In these cases, the only option is tube feeding every 2 hours, and there is a high mortality rate. We rushed Justice to the ER and then transferred her to a specialist in Austin where she is doing well!

The puppies are 9 weeks old now, about 12 lbs each, and will be ready for adoption in 3 more weeks. Beautiful mom Poppy is also ready to find her forever home. Please contact us to meet this precious crew!
Sarabi and her Pups: Our precious little lady, Sarabi, was another pregnant momma who found herself on death row. We rescued her and a few days later on 8-10-19, she delivered 6 beautiful healthy puppies - 4 boys and 2 girls! They all look just like momma, who is a Dachshund mix. We know these babies are going to be famous, so we named them in honor of the stars of the Lion King movie...Simba, Pumba, Zazu, Nala, Scar, and Mufasa. They will be ready for adoption at 12 weeks old!

Once in our program, we are committed to giving our dogs the best care possibleWe provide the time and energy, but we need help from our supporters and community to provide the financial resources so we can continue our life-saving mission.

All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated and can be made by check, credit card, or PayPal at: https://redcollar.org/donate/.
