Intercol Victors

Intercol 2019 was an enjoyable event for the College with a win of 12 shields to 9. We were pleased to host the Mercedes College community on our grounds and thank them for the friendly competition.

Foundation Breakfast

The Foundation Board hosted the third Foundation Breakfast at the Hilton Adelaide on 30 August. It was lovely to have Jess Trengove as our guest speaker and the event was a great way to network with others in our community. Foundation Chair, Jay McGrath, launched The 5th Term campaign and explained how with the purchase of a beanie you can help build our Bursary Program.

The 5th Term is a concept to be imagined. An additional school term that only exists in our dreams and in our hopes of giving the opportunity of a Jesuit education to a child who could not otherwise afford it.

In reality there is no fifth school term that we are required to fund for our own children, but in our thoughts, we can see our contribution to this fifth term (whatever that might be) as a contribution to another child - a child that receives a bursary from the Saint Ignatius’ College Foundation.

Beanies are $30 each and can be purchased at the Senior or Junior School Receptions. All proceeds support the Bursary Program. To view pictures from the Breakfast click here or to read more about the Bursary Program click here.

Saint Ignatius Art Show

And that's a wrap! Thank you to all the artists who exhibited their work with us this year. We hope to see you again in 2021. Thank you also to all the sponsors who made the event possible with their support. Until next time, keep dreaming, creating and inspiring. FISAF Aerobics Nationals

Congratulations to our Old Ignatians who competed in FISAF Aerobics Nationals in Brisbane on 8-11 August and won Gold, Silver and Bronze! The teams, who are lead by head coach of Platinum Sports Aerobics, Victoria Metzer (Class of 2001) comprises of Old Ignatians and three current students. The reason they continue to train 2-3 times a week is not only to be competitive at a high standard, but being introduced to the sport at school, they wanted to continue this enjoyment at Platinum Sport Aerobics. Well done ladies!

Spotted at the University of Melbourne

Old Ignatians who are currently studying in Melbourne, enjoying a lunch and a chance to catch up with each other about all their adventures and study plans. It’s great to see that they are taking advantage of all that the university has to offer, such as the “Breadth” program, College life, and are academically engaged. I’m pleased to report that they are all thriving and ‘adulting’ in Melbourne! If current students wish to find out more about studying at the university, there will be a special “Interstate Open Day” in the upcoming holidays which I thoroughly recommend attending.

Colorado Springs Mural

Check out this grand mural which is being painted by Old Ignatian, Kim Polomka (Class of 1969). Kim was the Artist in Residence at Saint Ignatius’ College, 20 Years ago in 1999. This is the second mural Kim has painted on the Colorado Springs skyline, a busy highway for motorists, which is now promoting the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Colorado Springs Airport with the brilliant supersized painting!

Celebrating Milestones

Recently four exceptional teachers at the College (that most of you will remember) were acknowledged for their milestone “years of service” at Saint Ignatius’ College. Rocco D’Onofrio and Ian Dales celebrated 30 Years and David Harben (Class of 1971) and Paul Marks celebrated 35 Years! This is a real testament to the work culture and community here at Saint Ignatius' College. So please join us in congratulating these teachers on their magnificent milestones and wish them many more years and memories to come!

Old Ignatians welcomed back

Last month, the College had a special visit from three Old Ignatians, Eamon Power (Class of 1971), Greg Campbell (Class of 1973) and Mario Bugna (Class of 1972) who came back for a tour of the campus with Father Peter Hosking SJ (Class of 1974). The Old Ignatians enjoyed reconnecting with their “Old” School and relished in the vast differences from their early days.

East Timor Reflection

Saint Ignatius' College Rector, Fr Peter Hosking SJ (Class of 1974), was called to reflect on his time at the Jesuit Refugee Service in East Timor as he spoke with 'The Catholic Leader' in the wake of the 20 year anniversary of the independence vote in East Timor.

Thank you to the Old Ignatians who attended the 40 Year Reunion for the Class of 1979 on Friday, 16 August 2019 held at the Saint Ignatius’ College, Senior School. It was great to see such friendly faces sharing fond memories (and some outrageous stories) from their time at the College.

Fidelis 35th Birthday Celebration

On Sunday 18 August, the Fidelis Association celebrated their 35th Birthday at the Senior School. The afternoon started off with a Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Name, celebrated by Bishop Greg O’Kelly SJ (Class of 1958), Fr Paul Mullins SJ (Class of 1968), Fr Peter Hosking SJ (Class of 1974) and Fr Kieran Gill SJ. The group then headed over to the Caroline Chisholm building for a wonderful afternoon tea and drinks where they welcomed Guest Speaker Bishop O’Kelly SJ back to the stage. Although the rain poured, the champagne and conversation flowed. Happy 35 Years Fidelis and we look forward to many more celebrations!

Happy 90th Birthday to Br John May SJ!

Br John, who now lives in Sydney, was the seventh Jesuit winemaker at Sevenhill, who quickly put his stamp on the winery by leading the charge in establishing a strong reputation for their table wines, growing the cellar door operation and making a significant contribution to Clare Valley tourism. Br May Celebrated his 90th Birthday on 10 August and celebrated 70 Years with the Society of Jesus on 23 August. A wonderful life of service to AMDG.

Happiness and Success

Recently at a Senior School assembly, the College warmly welcomed back Old Ignatian, Ron Tomlian (Class of 1978) who spoke to our current students about what makes a good life. Ron is an experienced leadership mentor and coach to senior executives and CEOs and is a guru in marketing, management, strategic planning and brand development. Ron spoke about Harvard’s longest study in history of adult life on how you can be happier and more successful. We thank Ron for his time and wisdom that he shared with us.

Mentor in Melbourne

Recently, Saint Ignatius’ College Advancement Manager, Belinda Mears was able to catch up with one of our Founding Mentors and Old Ignatians, Patrick Keane (Class of 1984). Patrick lives in Melbourne and has vast experience in Sports Media and Journalism and currently works for the CEO Office in the Australian Football League (AFL). Patrick has a lot to offer our Old Ignatian Mentoring Program, with his extensive experience in mentoring. We are very fortunate to have his expertise on board.
