Hi <<First Name>>,

Welcome to September - a time which many of us look upon as the beginning of a 'new term’, not just for children but also for our business.

Let’s start the term with a burst of new energy and focus. Why not book a one-off coaching session with me to get you going?

My Time Management workshop last month was such fun. As you’ll see below, the results were quite surprising...

In my newsletter this week:
  • Same input - different output
  • Can you show up with confidence?
  • Money, money, money? Not always
  • Are you stalking your work?
Please do read on....

Same input - different output

One of the things I love about my workshops is that everyone takes what they need.

I deliver exactly the same content to everyone in the room, but what they take away can be quite different.

Last month’s Time Management workshop was a great example of this.

We spent three hours covering a wide range of topics from purpose to strategy, planning to productivity.

Each participant found a different aspect hugely helpful.

For example:

One attendee took away an action to block time in their diary for their big tasks.

Another committed to preparing their business plan, with 30 and 60 day action plans.

And a third undertook to find and download an app to help them manage their to do lists.

It’s amazing how diverse these actions are.

And I’m looking forward to hearing how everyone gets on!

How good is YOUR time management, and what one thing could you do to make it (even) better?

Can you show up with confidence?

There’s a recurring theme that holds many small business owners back.

It’s confidence - or lack of it.

It can impact us in many different ways.

It might mean we dread speaking in public.

Which in turn may mean we hate standing up and telling people what we do.

Or that we hate giving a talk about our business.

It might mean that we play down our expertise, our skills or our strengths.

Maybe we use those little words “I just”  “I’m only” or “I’m quite good at..."

Some years ago I worked with people in corporate life to help them build they confidence in prompting their competence.

So now I’m wondering whether I can help some of you with the same issue.

I’m thinking of adding a new workshop to my portfolio:

“How to show up, without showing off”.

If you’d be interested in this, please let me know.

Money, money, money? Not always

If we’re connected on FacebookTwitter or Linked In, you’ll know that I had my interview last week for the second round of the Kingston Business Excellence Awards.

I’m a finalist in the Best Financial and Professional Services Business category.

During my interview, one of the questions the judge asked me was:

What makes you different?"

And amongst other things I said:

"I don’t assume that my clients are in business to make money."

Now that may sound a bit weird, but it’s true.

Of course, as businesses, we all need to make some money.

Some of my clients are definitely financially motivated - and have a clear monetary goal.

But we don’t always need to make lots of money.

I often talk about the key steps to business success.

Understanding what drives you is the first step to success.

For many of my clients, money isn’t a key driver or goal.

And that’s OK.

Are you stalking your work?

If you’ve been with me for while, you’ve probably heard me talk about the importance of follow up.

And I make no apologies for raising the subject again.

Because I know from experience that we small business owners often don’t do it!

The easiest way to get more business is to connect with those who have already shown interest in us.

They could be:
  • People who’ve joined a group we belong to
  • People we’ve come across at some one-off occasion
  • Former clients who’ve bought our product or service in the past
There are several different ways to ’stalk’ them without overtly selling your wares.

For example:
  • You could connect with a new contact on your preferred social media platform.
  • You could email them and suggest meeting for a 1:1 over coffee
  • You could drop them a line and ask them how they’re getting on
  • You could invite them to an event that you think may interest them
  • You could suggest a book, podcast, or video you think may interest them
  • You could offer to introduce them to someone who you think they may like to know
Yes, it takes a little time to follow up, and if we’re busy, that time can easily slip away.

But it could be the most valuable thing you do for your business.

Surely that’s worth making time for!
