ISCE Newsletter

Welcome to the first of a new series of newsletters from ISCE. It is not intended that this communication will appear monthly, but it is the aim to update all those linked with ISCE on items of interest – occasionally!

New Association Management Company

Those of you who attended ISCE 2019 in Ocean Beach, Florida will know that I announced then that ISCE would be parting company on June 30th with McKenna Management which was the Association Management Company (AMC) that looked after the organisation of ISCE business. A Search Committee was formed at the ISCE Board Meeting in April and this group undertook to find a new AMC. The committee consisted of myself, Jean-Phillippe Couderc (Vice President), Bob Lux (Past President), Claire Sommargren (Secretary) and Steve Szymkiewicz, who is a recently appointed Board Member. All of the committee volunteered!

After a very comprehensive search involving the review of many proposals followed by some interviews, I am pleased to say that on August 12th, I signed an Agreement on behalf of ISCE with Hauck and Associates, Inc., which is based in Washington, DC (www.hauck.com) and has been managing associations and societies since 1974. I would like to thank all of the Search Committee for their untiring support throughout this lengthy process. We have already begun transitioning all of the ISCE data files to Hauck in preparation for what is hoped will be a successful working partnership.

2020 Meeting Preparation

As many of you will know, ISCE 2020 will be held at the Miramonte Hotel in Indian Wells, California, from Wednesday April 29th, when there will be an opening Evening Reception, through to Sunday 3rd May, when delegates will depart. Please note these dates in your diary. For those looking ahead at travel, the nearest international airport is Palm Springs, California. A separate flyer is attached to this newsletter. The Conference Chair, Pyotr Platonov and Co-Chair, Raymond Bond have been working hard in formulating a Programme, which is already taking shape. Further details will appear in a subsequent newsletter.

ISCE 2020 Abstract Deadline

The deadline for abstract submission for ISCE 2020 is December 1st, 2019. Further details will be circulated in due course and will also be available shortly on the ISCE website at www.isce.org. The Board is particularly keen to encourage young researchers to submit abstracts and also to enter for the Jos Willems Young Investigator Competition. Financial incentives are available (see informationbelow).

Membership

The Board will be reviewing terms for membership of the Society. Membership does include online access to the Journal of Electrocardiology from any PC at home or at work as well as provision of a printed copy. However, the Board would like to see a greater number of individuals be permanent members of the Society and not simply a member for the year in which they attend the meeting. A further announcement will follow.

Website

It is not expected that there will be substantial changes to the ISCE website but it is possible that enhancements will be made in different areas. Rome was not built in a day, as the saying goes, and so do not look for radical changes overnight. The website is built around a commercial package used by many associations, and Hauck and Associates already have experience of using the underlying software.

PostScript

I hope the above news has been of some interest. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any ideas for future newsletters. I look forward to learning of a healthy submission of abstracts for ISCE 2020, which is in a superb location where little rain is expected. That will certainly make a big change from Scotland this summer!

JOS WILLEMS EARLY CAREER INVESTIGATOR COMPETITION:
The Jos Willems Early Career Investigator competition is open to current students in an academic degree program; to interns, residents or fellows in medical training; and to anyone who has received their highest academic degree (or, for MDs, completed their residency) within the four years prior to the Conference (proof required). Early Career Investigators whose submissions are ranked the highest by a panel of judges will be invited as finalists to present their work orally at the Conference and will receive travel funds; an additional panel of judges at the conference will decide the winner. Early Career Investigator submitters whose abstracts are accepted will be invited to present their work as a poster at the conference; if they attend and present, they will receive a reduced comprehensive conference fee based on the rate that is available to regular ISCE members. Abstracts must be submitted online according to ISCE abstract requirements and instructions which are available on ISCE’s website. Previous finalists may re-apply only once; previous
