The start of summer sailing fun is almost with us, Opening Day for LSC is Sunday October 6th. It’s short notice I know, but to get things nice and off to a good start for the season we will be having a Club Working Bee on Sunday the 22nd of September, starting at 9.00am and finishing at 3.00pm. Please give LSC some time if you can. There are many jobs that need doing-
Move flag pole
Wash down & paint sheds
Clean out, reorganise and label kitchen cupboards
Sort out, label tag keys
Clean out and sweep sheds
Sweep rigging area
Check safety boats
Repair & retile shower bays
Fill potholes in gravel driveway
Clean shed gutters
Remove weeds in compound
Rehang trophies, plaques and photos
Sand and varnish entry foyer
Paint or box in new hot water cylinder
Changeover oven
As you can see the list is long and could be longer! This is despite much work being done over the winter period. We tried to re-sow the lawn section but the pesky Native Hens and Plovers keep eating the lawn seed!
Our “Friday’s” functions have gone very well despite the lousy weather on both occasions. We are confident, with the warmer weather, that these nights will grow and become a must do item. I love seeing the young families in the Club relaxing and enjoying themselves. Our major tenants of the Club, Rompers and Stomp have been very supportive of our Friday’s initiative by encouraging their clients to support Friday’s and allowing us to use their equipment. Thank you to those that have supported “Friday’s” so far. At the moment I am investigating the feasibility (and complexities) of holding a regular Friday night market at LSC. Stay tuned.
We need to raise funds to run the Club and carry out maintenance and make improvements to equipment and facilities. We could raise fees and charges…….……or support functions and events. What would you prefer? I’d much rather attend a function while having fun doing it and bring friends and family to gain their support than increase fees and charges to our members. Frankly if it wasn’t for our regular club renters, we wouldn’t have a club. Our sailing activity doesn’t come close to funding club operating expenses. If you know of someone wanting a venue for a family or general function suggest LSC for hire.
Last Saturday Rompers and Stomp held a children’s disco in the club with some proceeds going to LSC. The disco was well supported by R&S customers but unfortunately there were no LSC people there. About 120 children attended.
This season will be a cracker! Membership and entries will increase, more people = more fun. Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd!
But, as always - we need more volunteers! We can’t function and you wont sail without volunteer support so if you have family or friends who would like to help encourage them and put them in touch with me or a committee member (as listed in the LSC Club Handbook - which will be published and available at the working bee). We need helpers in the canteen, shore duty, rescue boats, start boat, training support, cooking BBQ, day preparation and pack up, general duties, there is always something to do and it’s fun and rewarding to contribute.
Opening Day format will probably be a couple of short warm up races followed by a Family BBQ after sailing so be prepared to stick around and support your Club on the day.
