Fleet update

Great news - this years entry numbers are tracking ahead of 2018 and there are some serious 40 footers among the fleet!  We are delighted to see a return of the classic yachts, and with the introduction of the modern classics, there will be a beautiful fleet to see up in Russell. Following the success of the SSANZ series, rumour has it that we are likely to see more single and two handed entries - plus the return of some of the  Y88s and smaller boats.

Reminder that entries close on 11th October so its time to get your entry sorted and Cat 3 inspection underway. Yachting New Zealand will not be issuing any safety certificates within 2 weeks of the race.

NOR Amendment
Club Teams and Modern Classics

The competition between team entries is expected to heat up with the NZ Multihull Yacht Club now having finalised details for this years teams competition.  Details are notified in Amemdment 2 of the Notice of Race, linked below and on the Regatta Documents webpage.

Team entries are comprised of four boats from the same yacht club and this year,  multihulls are eligible to join team entries and rank alongside the monohulls.  That means more speed, more hulls!

The “Classics” Division is now open to both classic and modern classic vessels as defined by the Classic Yacht Association.  For update on classification please see amendment 2 of Notice of Race.

It's more than a yacht race...
We are so please that the team at 36 Degree Brokers  have continued their partnership with the PIC Coastal Classic - again enabling our increasingly popular cruising rally division.

Aimed at production and cruising boats, this division has a relaxed start and the option of four hours of motoring. It's a lot of fun, pretty social and even a bit competitive!

B&G Releases the new WS700 vertical wind sensor

B&G, a lonstanding supporter of the PIC Coastal Classic, has released a new vertical wind sensor designed for race yachts and larger cruising yachts. The instrument is mounted on a spar that elevates it above sail-plan disturbances and thus provides highly accurate wind data.
Almost 35 years since launching the first version of the popular 213 Masthead Unit, B&G designed the WS700 to be the most accurate and reliable sensor of its kind on the market.

The WS700 comes mounted on a carbon spar of four different lengths, between 0.8 – 1.8 m, which elevates the sensor above sail-plan disturbance. Positioning the sensor in undisturbed airflow dramatically reduces uncertainties that come from turbulence and adds precision to the wind angle and speed measurements.
