Called to contemplate the cost of discipleship today, we might be helped by translating Paul’s request to Philemon into our prayer of the day: Refresh my heart in Christ. Strengthened by the company and forgiveness of the Christ in the blessed sacrament and recalling God’s grace in remembrance of baptism, we can be strengthened in this hour to “choose life”—to choose life in God as our own.

Heavenly Father, your Holy Spirit, like a wind from heaven, blows away all that is bad. May that holy wind blow away the sadness and the wickedness in our world, and bring calm and peace. Generous God pour out your love. • Your Holy Spirit burns up like fire, to cleanse and renew. May that cleansing fire make us clean on the inside, destroying sin, and changing us for good. Generous God pour out your love. • Your Holy Spirit is like a flame that enlightens human hearts. May that flame lighten our darkness, and guide us in the ways of peace and justice. Generous God pour out your love. • Your Holy Spirit hovered over the world at the beginning of creation. May that hovering Spirit descend on our world today, to mend and to heal, to restore all that is damaged, and bring about the fullness of your new creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Foster Care and Treatment Parenting through
Lutheran Services Carolinas
Sometimes because of abuse or neglect or because their parents have become unable to care for them, children are left without the love and support they need to lead happy and productive lives. Foster and treatment parents guide and support children through unimaginable struggles and challenges. With supervision and support from LSC, loving families provide care to approximately 500 children across the Carolinas each year.
LSC offers three levels of care to meet the special physical and emotional needs of every child. For each level of care, LSC provides plenty of support and the appropriate resources for caregivers. LSC in Charleston provides Therapeutic foster care.
Therapeutic foster care serves children with challenges somewhat greater than normal, including medically fragile children and children who have emotional and behavioral issues that require counseling. Therapeutic foster care is offered in North and South Carolina. Some foster and treatment families will have the opportunity to adopt when reunification with a child's biological family is not possible. Finding permanent, safe, and supportive families for children is the ultimate goal.
In the month of September we will be collecting items to put in a “placement bag” for foster children. Many times when the children are placed in foster care they come with nothing or things that are too small for them. And most of the time their personal belongings are carried in a trash bag. And we can help make a difference by donating the following items (all sizes needed) for both girls and boys between the ages of 7-18:
New underwear and undergarments
Socks
Pajamas
Jeans
Gift Cards (to be given to foster kids for birthdays and Christmas)
Thank you so much for your support in helping the foster children in Charleston. You can make a difference in the lives of these children! Please feel free to contact the church office with any questions.
