Welcome to the Streatham & Marlborough Sweep (SMS), a regular update of club news.

Promotion secured for the Men's 4s

The Men's 4 confirmed their promotion with one game to spare over the weekend with a convincing over Oxted & Limpsfield. They lead the division by a single point and will aim to secure their status as Champions with a victory this weekend. Congratulations to skipper, Benn Glazier, and his players. Go well this weekend and bring back the title!

End of League Season Party!

The 6th XI will be leading the end of season social evening at the club this Saturday after the games. Let’s see the season off in style!

Senior Awards / Dinner and Dance - 26 October

The Social / Executive Committee are currently discussing a changes to the event. The options are:

1) Continue with the existing format at £35 per head, 3 course meal with DJ, decorations and hired in tables/chairs
2) Reduce the cost to around £20-25, reduce the number of courses, use existing club tables/chairs and dispense with the DJ/decorations.

The aim with the latter is to increase attendance by the membership at the expense of the some of the formality and “elegance”. If anyone has any strong thoughts about what to go choose, please contact me and I’ll pass on.

SMCC to field seven Saturday league sides in 2020!

Following discussions with the Chair of Selection, Head of Junior Cricket and the captains, it's been agreed that we will enter seven league sides in 2020. Given the numbers of new members and the growth in the junior section, we believe we have sufficient numbers to fulfil fixtures for 77 players on any given weekend. This is fantastic for the club and a result of efforts in recruitment by the membership team and the junior section.

We'll be looking to enter the 5th XI into the more developed Surrey Championship whilst the 6th and 7th XI will enter the Kent Regional Cricket League.

Men's 5 beat league leaders to retain in promotion contention

The Men's 4s secured promotion with a comfortable victory against Oxted & Limpsfield. Batting first, they racked up 245-7 in their 40 overs with contributions from Parker (63), Wright (44), Ettinger (43) and Stuart (42). Oxted lost wickets at regular intervals and wickets were shared around with Ryan finishing the innings with figures of 2.3-0-3-3! The Men's 2s secured their status in Division 3 for another season with a hard fought win against Sanderstead. After a good start, the middle order was ripped out by former SMCC player, Mehta. Captain Sharif (23), Oakes (20) and Sarwavkhan (37) steadied the innings and eeked out a total which offered a chance. Sarwavkhan and Sharif bowled superbly taking three wickets each to put Sanderstead in trouble and it was left to young Ollie Khan to help finish the job with two wickets.

The 5s won again to put themselves in the promotion mixer with a win versus LESSA Christ Church. Having been set 168 to win, Southworth (44*) saw it home after earlier contributions from Buttler (53) and Hughes (38) to win by 3 wickets in the final over. Just two points off second going into the final round of fixtures, they require results to go their way but certainly have momentum with seven wins from their last eight completed games. In the other games, the 1s suffered a heavy defeat against the league leaders in a game which saw Dodds (U16) and Kay (U15) make their 1st XI league debuts. The 3s were defeated at Normandy by 98 runs despite a well crafted innings from Flower, who made 92. Finally, the 6s lost a close one to NatWest Blues by 8 runs, Viswanathan took 4-32 to dismiss the Blues for 140 but only three batters made double figures in the chase.
