1. Wednesday Training day September 4
The next mid week training day will be at  Bundy’s forest  on Wednesday 4th Sept. Signs from the east end of Rocky Creek Rd   about 9 KM along the Gumeracha to Williamstown road. A 4km course in pine forest has been set by Jeffa Lyon. All welcome.

2. Sat 7th and Sun 8th September – 2 Days of Orienteering in the Riverland near Renmark
 
Both events are now open for entries
Sat PM – Paringa Paddocks – new map area on the river flood plain, with a complex track network

Sun AM - SA Long Distance Championships – Crooked Straight
Note all champs classes are by pre-entry only : with some limited courses available for enter-on-day.

This area will provide a great opportunity to compete on terrain which allows for fast running through vegetation which is light and scrubby, but requires careful navigation through intricate features of sandy knolls and high points.  The mapped area is a sandy plateau with steep drops to the River Murray and the flood plain. 
The event area is on Crown Land where camping is permitted along the banks of the Murray River among the scattered trees and the area is most suitable for mountain biking.The site has a public boat ramp and the river provides a very pleasant area for canoeing,

3. Saltbush Orienteers Street/Park Event – Whyalla East - Sunday September 8th
To get to the start location travel along Cudmore Tce towards the foreshore and look for the orienteering van on the grassed area north of the Foreshore café and east of the playground.
Start times: anytime between 10.00am and 1pm, please return to the van by 3pm.
Courses will be available to suit all fitness levels.   
Remember to have comfortable walking shoes, hat and bring water.
Coaching is available so please ask at the orienteering van.

4. Schools Relay Championships
This event is to be held on Friday 13th September at Bonython Park.
Ken Thompson is the Event Secretary and Clive Arthur the Course Setter.
Helpers are again required to assist in the many ways necessary to successfully run an event of this type.Please let me know if you are able to assist at dtilbrook2@bigpond.com

5. Training Day Sunday 15 September 2019 Para Wirra North 
The training will be based at Gawler View.
 Registrations are required prior to dusk on 11th September for those nominating for the teacher training or moderate course skills and techniques.

6. Next Registered Teachers Level 0 Orienteering Coach Training 15 September 2019
The next Registered Teachers Level 0 Orienteering Coach training will be conducted at Para Wirra Conservation Park as part of the Orienteering SA Training Day on 15 September 2019.

We need more orienteering coaches in schools.

7. SA MTBO CHAMPS – SEPT 15 – MT Pleasant
This event is open to all – so dust the cobwebs off the bikes and come and tackle the courses set by David Talbot.
If you want to ride a shorter course or go in pairs, that is also possible .  Entries via Eventor by SEPT 11th.

RULES to remember
  • You must visit the controls in order 1, 2, 3 etc
  • You CANT ride across the forest.  You must stay on tracks or on bright yellow (cleared ground).
  • You must stay with your bike at all times – no leaving it and running to controls.
  • Riders going downhill should give way to riders going uphill.

 

8. The 2019 Australian MTBO Champs

The first 100 entries to this year's Australian MTBO Championships will receive a free souvenir drawstring backpack courtesy of our major sponsor Wildfire Sports.
The Championships will be held in Maryborough, Victoria from 25-27 October. There will be FOUR championships events contested over 3 daysplus a training event, the Championships Dinner to be held at the iconic Maryborough Station, and an IOF run MTBO Workshop for Organisers, Course setters and Controllers. This year also sees the first Australian Mass Start Championship, so make sure you book this weekend, including the Friday, to be part of this fantastic carnival of MTBO.

The Championships is also a round of the World Masters Series, the final round of the National MTBO Series and an Australia-New Zealand Challenge. All good reasons to be part of something very special.

9. The Australian Orienteer
The September 2019 edition of The Australian Orienteer is available to download from  https://issuu.com/orienteeringaustralia/docs/auso-2019-3 . The magazine file is 56MB and contains 17 maps which will be in crisp definition if you download the file. If you view the maps on-line in Issuu the definition will not be as crisp.
