Moors for the Future Partnership played host to BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 30 August, with Martha Kearney hosting the show from the Moorland Centre and interviewing members of the Partnership, as well as people from across the National Parks.

 

 

Currently, two strands of monitoring, restoration and environmental, are underway to best understand the changes to vegetation cover and type over time. We’ve found that the nurse crop grasses establish quickly and change the ground cover from 100% bare peat to nearly 100% vegetation in about 3–4 years.

 

New evidence indicates that hummock-forming species of sphagnum moss recover from harvesting.

 

Moors for the Future Partnership supported 'Funding of the Natural Environment', an event for the Heather Trust and other landowners, centring on the ecosystem services that the moorlands can offer with a particular focus on water quality, biodiversity and natural flood management. 

 

2019 has been a bumper year for the Bogtastic van, as it reached a record number of people and allowed us to tell the story of the importance of peatland.
