Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for the many of you that came out to Curriculum Night this past week.  We hope that the time was informative and valuable.  It was good to see you and be able to say hi.

This week is our first book fair of the year.  It is a great opportunity to get some new books for your explorers.  We also have a couple other "firsts".  The Parent's Council for Diversity and Equity will be meeting for the first time, as well as our "first" middle school mentoring meeting will be held.  Be sure to check those out below.  We are looking forward to a great week ahead.

I will see you in the morning!

News & Headlines

Please join us for the first meeting of the Parents’ Council for Diversity and Equity (PCDE)!

What is it: The mission of the PCDE is to advance diversity at The Museum School of Avondale Estates. The PCDE achieves its mission by providing a forum for parents and caregivers invested in students of color to discuss concerns, share ideas, and make recommendations to better support diverse students.

What will the meetings be like: We will hold four meetings every school year. A member of the TMS staff will join us for the first portion of each meeting to discuss a chosen topic of interest to the council and answer questions from the group. Afterwards, the group will meet privately to discuss issues relevant to students of color at TMS.

Who is invited to join: All parents and caregivers of diverse students at TMS!

When will meetings be held:
  Meeting 1: Tuesday, September 10, 2019 6:30 pm
  Meeting 2: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 6:30 pm
  Meeting 3: Tuesday, February 11, 2020 6:30 pm
  Meeting 4: Tuesday, April 14, 2020 6:30 pm

PCDE meetings are intended for adult parents and caregivers. One volunteer hour has been approved per family for attending! If you have any questions or can’t make the meeting but have a concern, please email Erin Brooks at,erin.brooks@themuseumschool.org.

We hope to see you there!!

Nutrition Central

IMPORTANT SCHOOL NUTRITION UPDATE:

Please remember to fill out a meal application to see if your family qualifies for meal benefits! Doing so qualifies you for 1 volunteer hour per household!   Even if you do not plan to use meal benefits, or if you think you may not qualify, it is a quick, easy, and secure online form.  Go to Schoolcafe.com to apply.  This website is operated by Dekalb County so please use it for meal applications only (do not make any payments). See last week's newsletter for instructions.

Expiring Benefits

If your family had meal benefits last year, those benefits are set to expire on September 17, 2019.  You must reapply at Schoolcafe.com as soon as possible if you would like to extend benefits for this year.  It is very important for families who wish to continue their benefits to re-apply every year as they expire 6 weeks after school starts. Emails were sent on Wednesday to families who need to reapply.  Paper applications are also available in the cafeteria.

Please contact Erin.johnson@themuseumschool.org if you have any questions or need a paper application.
The Museum School offers both Breakfast and Lunch daily.  Students can bring a home lunch or get school lunch. Cold breakfast will be served before school from 7:30am-7:50am and costs $1.50.  Lunch is $4.00.

Pay for meals in advance using the payment portal or by cash or check.
View the September Breakfast & Lunch Menu
In most cases, school lunch is ordered by the student in homeroom in the morning. See the TMS website for more information about ordering school lunch in homeroom. If your student forgets to bring their home lunch (it happens sometimes!), please call the front desk and email Erin.Johnson@themuseumschool.org by 9:00am and a school lunch will be provided.
