NATIONAL YOGA MONTH - AND TOTAL BODY WELLNESS

National Yoga month is the perfect time to bring awareness to the total body health issues we assess for and discuss with our patients.

Airway – one thing that becomes abundantly clear when you practice yoga and the focus on breath – can you breathe through your nose? If not, it may not just be passing congestion; it could be making you aware that you have an airway issue that should be screened for. We have 2 non-invasive and affordable options to do so – a Watch Pat and an HRPO. Ask more about this at your next appointment.

Exercise –IOM’s Total Body Health questionnaires include inquiring about your exercise routine and stress level. Regular exercise - including types that that encourage flexibility, mindfulness and raising your heart rate – can contribute to a multitude of health benefits and drive down inflammatory factors.

Inflammation– as an IOM patient, you know we are always assessing risk factors that could drive local or total body inflammation. Besides evaluating inflammation in the mouth via measuring gum pockets and bleeding in your mouth, we also have access to a screening blood panel from Cleveland Heart Lab that includes some inflammatory blood biomarkers.
“Some studies show that yoga may reduce inflammatory markers in the body and help prevent pro-inflammatory diseases.”

At IOM we take the mouth seriously so join Dr. Thompson, the IOM team and several guest experts for a morning of learning, dialogue and healthy meal.
