Summer Family Holidays

We finished our Care for the Family single parent weeks at the beginning of the month and moved into our August Family Fun week as well as having two other weeks specifically for single parent families. We have been hugely blessed by all that God has done in these weeks and we have seen families encouraged and challenged in equal measure. At the end of the August family fun week Sam, one of our Summer team, got baptised in the estuary.

His family have been coming on holidays here for a few years and his brother Joe has been on the team for the last three. It was amazing to hear his testimony and then to witness his baptism by his Dad and Pete.

The Ultimate Adventure

What an amazing week this was! We had 32 young people including quite a few from the local area. As I’m sure you know, our theme this year was ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.

There were opportunities for the young people to gain more experience with the outdoor activities, but also a great deal of fun and craziness too. The Team dressed up as monkeys, apes and jungle explorers. There was the biggest, wettest game of water polo I have ever seen, (who comes up with these ideas?!) There was also worship, challenging talks and discussion groups. The key verses for the week we ‘Be strong and courageous…for The Lord your God will be with you’. All in all, a great week.

Summer Camps

Early August saw young people from our own youth groups head off to various summer camps. A small group went along to MCYC camp and we took 12 of our older youth to Soul Survivor.

We prayed hard for God to move in the lives of the young people and we saw amazing things happen with some giving their lives to Jesus or being challenged and growing in their faith. All the months of building relationships, raising money and all the practical work that goes into making things like this work is worth it to see all that happens during these camps. We look forward to all the follow up over the next few weeks and months, including four of our young people getting baptised very soon.

Team News

Our Summer Team have been amazing as always and we are so thankful for all they have contributed in the last month; a massive ‘thank you’ to Sophie, Frankie, Ben, Sam and Rose.

From the longer-term team, Andrew left during August and is starting university soon. Nathan has also left after completing his gap year. Phil has also left the Office Team although may still do some days for us over the coming months. We will miss them and have so appreciated all they have given here over the last months and years.

New Team Members joining us are: Jasper (who did start on Summer Team), Hannah and also Mark, who joins our Maintenance Team. It’s great to have you all on board!

We have more interviews coming up and are hoping to fill a few more places that are available.

Prayer points

  • Thanks for all God has done over the summer
  • Thanks for God’s provision in every way
  • Please pray that new team will settle in and soon feel at home
  • Please pray that we will have a full team for the rest of this year and for next year too
  • Pray for our young people that they will continue to grow in their faith

We would very much appreciate prayers for Beth & Jake who get married on 21st September. The whole Min y Don family are very excited and we look forward to bringing you the news – and photos of the big day in next month’s edition.

And Finally:

  • Chris & Jacob are nominated for Bafta Awards for their portrayal of Lord Melbury and his long-suffering companion, Benji during Ultimate Adventure
  • Pete commented that Jake is extremely funny dressed in a monkey suit and without even speaking ….. actually funnier when he doesn’t speak maybe? (only kidding Jake – we ‘love’ your jokes)
  • Steve & Chris cooked up jungle grub on The Ultimate Adventure consisting of grasshoppers, water beetles and mealworms (we’ll keep them out of the Min y Don kitchen from now on)
  • Sam looks better with a face full of cream! (Photos on request)
  • Norman the Budgie survived both opera and electrocution during The Ultimate Adventure.
  • Cecil the owl now wears a nappy
  • Ian’s jeep (+ inflatable animals) proved to be the ideal ‘Welcome to the jungle’ prop
  • The annual hide and seek competition was won by Cedric the snake (The Ultimate Adventure again!)
  • The Min y Don Team and The Ultimate Adventure guests now avoid tapas
  • Joe played the ‘last post’ to a dead mouse
  • Caleb wins filmmaker of the year for his jungle themed ‘Tonight’s Star Prize’ videos
  • Shares in ‘Mars’ have rocketed thanks to Mark’s daily ‘Ripple’

We are so grateful as always for your prayers, friendship and support. See you again next month.

With love from Susie & Pete
and all the team here at Min y Don
