@Readygov
#StormSurge is fast & dangerous flooding caused by hurricane winds. Find out your risk with @NOAA’s hazard maps: nhc.noaa.gov/nationalsurge. Storm surge is also due in part to the low pressure, high winds and high waves associated with a hurricane.
- The best way to survive a storm surge is to heed evacuation orders and leave before the surge arrives
- The storm surge can cause significant flooding and cost people their lives if they're caught unexpected
- The extreme rise in water levels and strong winds can cause severe flooding, property damage, and beach + coastal highway erosion
- Be prepared for power outages
- Floodwater is dangerous – never drive, walk or ride through floodwater
- Floodwater is toxic – never play or swim in floodwater
