"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

Hello. I hope you're well.

The weather’s a bit chilly and the sun has disappeared. Yes, it’s officially autumn – the time to do more things indoors, perhaps?

I’ve been tempting people inside Bo’ness Library, helping to set up a new exhibition on Scottish inventor James Watt.

Most of the panels came from a touring exhibition from Birmingham – but I added in some Scottish colour, designing additional displays and organising local publicity.

Pop in and see for yourself. The exhibition is on in Bo’ness until the end of September – and may go to other local libraries afterwards.

It’s all part a project to mark the 200th anniversary of Watt’s death in 2019. (Watt did some of his steam engine work here in Bo'ness.)

I look after the official www.jameswatt.scot website – writing and designing web pages, creating photographs and videos and producing audio content.

ATTRACTING TOURISTS TO TOWN

Here’s a nice shot from the summer.

I organised a photocall and did some PR to relaunch a tourism leaflet for Bo’ness.

The tourist brochure was first produced in 2013, using my text and pictures. Cue a request for an update and reprint, which I was happy to help with (working with a local design firm).

Anyway, the leaflet is out around the Forth Valley. You can also find out more on The PR Store website.

(By the way, I secured a front-page picture story in the local paper about the revamped leaflet. It’s always nice when a plan comes together.)

BEING THE BEST BAR NONE

The summer also saw me take on some part-time work doing PR for the Best Bar None initiative in Scotland. I updated the BBN website, created videos and new social media content and secured good press coverage. I've now finished work on the project and hope it goes from success to success.

MAKING A SHOW OF MYSELF

Finally, I’ve just been creating new banner stands for clients and received some great feedback. As most clients know, I’m more than just a writer and can turn my hand to producing lots of printed materials – from exhibition displays (like the Watt stuff), to banners and leaflets. I also do photography. If anyone wants to see samples, please get in touch.

HARVEST HOSPITALITY

That’s it for now. Enjoy wrapping up warm and doing more stuff indoors this autumn (like the fab free Doors Open Days across Scotland). PR Store client Abercorn Church (near South Queensferry) is taking part on September 15, with additional “Harvest Hospitality” – soup, home baking, and drinks in the church hall. It could be just the thing to warm you up on a chilly day.

Take care.

Best wishes,
