What did we ask?
The 3 Questions

Question 1 – Candidates to introduce themselves. Why are you running and what do you most want to achieve if elected?

Tairāwhiti Community Voice is a community organisation committed to helping Tairāwhiti thrive. Given central governments focus on Wellbeing and in consideration to the fact that the Tairāwhiti region struggles with some challenging statistics across the board in particular;

  • 1 in 4 in this community suffers from some kind of disability yet Gisborne District Council no longer acknowledges the existence of the Tairāwhiti Positive Aging Strategy and the Tairāwhiti Disability Strategy.
  • We also have some alarming statistics in mental health and suicide here in Tairāwhiti.

Question 2 – What does a Thriving Community that supports wellbeing look like to you and in what measurable way do you intend to support the wellbeing of Tairāwhiti?

Question 3 – How do you intend to support the non-profit sector to carry on the much needed services within Tairāwhiti?

Update: Good news just in from FinCap

You may remember last April / May TCV supported Gisborne Budget Moni Ora to raise awareness about the harm being caused by predatory lenders here in our community. TCV co-hosted a workshop with the Budget Service and GBS went onto submit a submission to the select committee for the review of the Credits Contracts & Consumer Finance Act  (CCCFA) along with many budgeting services around NZ - which was a huge effort coordinated by FinCap (National BFC provider support organisation).
TCV also helped promote FinCap's online petition which gained almost 5,000 signatures.
Now, We have a result!
Flash alert - Interest rate cap to be introduced
On Tuesday, the Government announced that they are introducing an interest rate cap of 0.8% a day. Read more about it here

BUILDING AWESOME MATAU

From TCV:

From the Tātou tātou e conference ... Amazing presentation from Panapa Ehau on developing sustainable inter-generational economic pathways that utilise and enhance local natural resources on the East Coast.

Panapa is a co-founder and Director of Hikurangi Cannabis Company where his role as Whanau Engagement sees him focused on developing the skill base of families in the Ruatoria area.

Really great to see Tairāwhiti represented at this national conference.
