Sheaves for Christ (SFC) 2019!
This year’s theme is “Treasure,” with a focus toward placing our treasure, particularly our finances, where our heart is. It's ironic that this year's theme would revolve around Matthew 6:21. Amongst all of the changes my wife and I have undergone this past year, during our relocation to Pierce County--new jobs, new home, new-to-us car--we made one additional change. We decided to jump onto the "Dave Ramsey" train and re-think how we looked at finances. Dave is officially one of my heroes. My co-workers rib me pretty good for streaming podcast after podcast of the Dave Ramsey Show at my desk while I work. Monthly budget meetings, the envelope system, snowballing expenses, learning to hate debt, utilizing more cash...all of these things have become the norm in our family. But one of the concepts that was really driven home in Financial Peace University was a viewpoint of giving, specifically in relation to Matthew 6:21. Yes, our heart is turned toward Heaven and so we give toward Heavenly things, but there's another aspect to the connection between our treasure and our heart: Wherever and whenever we give, we're investing the interest of our heart. In other words, not only will my treasure follow my heart, but my heart will also follow my treasure. Where my money goes, my heart will follow. It's an act of dedication; an act of investment. On a personal level, I give because I care, but I also care deeper because I give.
The moment I sacrifice, scrimp, sell, sweat, and save to further the Kingdom, I have the potential to be that much more invested in the Kingdom, because I've placed more skin in the game. It becomes that much closer to my heart. You've heard me say it before, and, if you'll allow me, I'll say it again: SFC is truly a kingdom-minded, kingdom-fueling endeavor. If you’ve attended a district youth event, hosted a missionary, heard a message preached by a Bible College graduate, or supported any UPCI-endorsed ministry, you’ve seen the dollars and cents of SFC at work. In the 5 years I've served on the Youth Committee here in the Georgia District, I've seen the heartbeat of the GDYM first-hand. Everything that is done revolves around sacrifice and service, with the intent of furthering the Kingdom and equipping the next generation of students to carry this precious message of truth. Please join with me in giving because we care, and caring deeper because we give. Our goals this year for Section One are as follows:
- $10,000 Raised as a Section
- 100% Participation within the Section
We've met the latter goal for the past THREE years (thank you for that!) and are looking to continue that positive momentum! If I have not heard from you by September 10 or received an offering amount for your church from the District Office, I’ll be making an extra effort to contact you via phone. My goal is to have our SFC numbers submitted to the GDYM by September 15 at 6:00PM.
