Join Us on Sunday...
SUNDAY September 8th – Water Ritual and Ingathering with Rev. Steve
We gather for the new church year, marking the occasion with our Unitarian Universalist Water Ritual. All are invited to bring a small amount of water for sharing. Join us on Sunday, September 8th for our annual Water Ritual and Ingathering Service. Service begins at 10:30 in the Sanctuary followed by lunch in the Parish Hall.
SUNDAY September 15th – Windows of Hope with Rev. Steve
This will begin a sermon series entitled, Windows of Hope. From time to time in the months ahead, we will consider aspects of our many historic windows, which in addition to being wonderfully beautiful also carry messages and meanings for us today. The windows illuminating our side aisles each stand for one of the eight “Beatitudes” of Scripture. We will consider this unusual word, beatitudes, and as the series continues, think about each one separately.

ALONG THE WAY
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR MINISTER
|
|
E. B. White once confessed, “I arise in the morning torn
between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy
the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.”
Dear Friends,
Perhaps you’re feeling that way these days, as the summer months come to an end, school begins for many of us, and the new church year commences Sunday with our annual Ingathering Service. In addition to song and sermon, we will celebrate the day with the Water Sharing Ritual that has become a tradition among us. You’re invited to bring a small quantity of water to share but even more importantly, your thoughts and blessings for the new year ahead of us.
I look forward to being with you as we begin our journey together.
With every good wish,
Rev. Steve

Greetings from your Church Board!
|
|
Welcome everyone as we begin our new church year at Hopedale Unitarian Parish! Please join us on Sunday with our new minister, Reverend Stephen Cook, in celebration of regathering as a church community. We’ll begin with our annual water service and continue with our Ingathering picnic for reconnection with family and friends.
The Board has been very busy this summer preparing for a new season of gathering, sharing, and worshiping together. We continue to work on both short and long-term goals and will be asking for your support in various ways as congregational needs, community activities and initiatives arise. Multiple projects and opportunities to gather are in the works! More detail on specifics will be shared with you in the coming weeks following our annual off-site retreat on September 28th. We are interested in hearing from you! Let us know if there is a program or event that you would like to coordinate; it will be reviewed for consideration. Please contact us with your questions and concerns as needed.
Your Board is looking forward to reconnecting with you and seeing you on Sunday!
Warmly,
Tracy Anderson & Alice Jacobson
Board Co-Chairs

LIFESPAN EDUCATION - EARTH CIRCLES
|
|
|
The Lifespan committee continues its journey with the Courageous Faith Program created by Kim Sweeney. As a reminder lifespan merged Religious education and worship two years ago. It has been exploring the best way to conduct service and religious education for HUP. The Committee is made up for Tina Perry, Chris Grilly, Rita Earl, Alice Jacobson and Rev Steve. This year is our second year working with Kim Sweeney in Courageous Faith Program. Our monthly sessions with her start in October. We will continue to learn how church and religious education is changing in America. In the second half of the year we work with Kim and Rev Steve to take that knowledge and apply it to HUP. Some of items are looking at include:
What type of service do people want in 2020?
What time of day, how long and which day of the week?
Who is our audience in HUP?
How do we work with other churches in the area?
On Sunday September 29th after service the life span group will have an open discussion with anyone who wants to stop by the Lady’s Parlor and chat with us about future plans.
Also, we would like to announce on the first Sunday of the month we will continue with the tradition of Children’s Chapel. Children will go directly to classroom. We have joys and concerns for Children and that a lesson from the Earth Circle’s Curricula . We want to thank Tina Perry for taking on the responsibility of organizing teachers and lessons this year. If you are interested in teaching a lesson, please contact Tina.
Rita Earl is organizing childcare which we plan to have available each Sunday.

HAPPENINGS IN THE UUA
|
|
|
In Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray's recent column in the UU World she writes that "to be a faith of action with love as our doctrine doesn’t mean we live it perfectly, but it does mean we are called again and again to learn, to make amends, to restore relationship, to choose love."
Read more on the essential spiritual and moral value of love in her column in UU World.

Publication Policy
If you have some news or information you would like to get out to people via our twice monthly email or in our order of service insert, or mentioned from the podium on Sunday morning, please get the announcement of 50 words or less to the church in writing via hard copy or email no later than 10 a.m. on Thursdays. We publish as much as we can weekly and two or three timely announcements will be read aloud during the service on Sunday morning.
