Hello Friend,

It's the most wonderful time of the year: back-to-school season has arrived! This week, as many as 75,000 Boston school-aged children will begin or have already begun their school year.

Even though the academic year has just started, it's already time to start thinking through your family's school options for the next school year (2020-2021). Some important deadlines are coming up quickly, including registration for the ISEE—the Independent School Entrance Exam—a key component of the application process to one of Boston's three exam schools.

The ISEE registration window opens Monday, Sept. 9th and closes on Friday, Sept. 20th. Click here to register online, beginning Monday.

We're also excited to announce we'll soon have major updates to the Boston School Finder website, including an updated Finder tool, more School Profiles, and even more resource guides to help families navigate their journey to finding a great-fit school for their children. Make sure to update your email preferences so you don't miss out on important updates throughout the year.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their school year!

Warmly,
Latoya Gayle

Get $50 for Your Child’s Future with Boston Saves!

You want your child to be financially secure some day. More and more, the key to getting there is college or career training. That’s why the City of Boston and Boston Public Schools started a new program called Boston Saves to help you plan for your child’s future. Starting this fall, every child entering K2 kindergarten in BPS will automatically receive a Boston Saves savings account dedicated to their future college or career training.

The program also provides:
  • $50 in your child’s account
  • Opportunities to earn more money for your child’s account
  • Tips to help you save your money and plan for the future
  • An online platform to track your savings progress
Here are some simple steps you can take now to get ready for Boston Saves:
  1. Sign up for family updates at www.bostonsavescsa.org. This is the best way to receive important updates on your child’s account.
  2. Open your own financial account for your child’s future. Contact your local bank or financial institution to open a savings, 529, or checking account to save for your child. You will be able to link this account to your child’s Boston Saves account to see all your savings in one place. If you do not want to open a bank account, Boston Saves offers a custodial account instead that does not require a social security number or identification card. To open a custodial account, contact bostonsaves@metrocu.org.
  3. Look for Boston Saves information from your school. Keep an eye out for important information from your child’s school about Boston Saves tips and events.
  4. Contact Boston Saves staff if you have questions! Email bostonsaves@boston.gov or call 617-918-5247.
