A regular update highlighting and connecting work within International Development across the OU and beyond.

Interdisciplinary environment draws research students

In this issue we hear from two of our recently arrived PhD students about their research into increasing access to medical screening and care for cancer patients in India and African countries, and why they chose The Open University as the place to do this work.

We also have quite a selection of upcoming events: most notably, following the success of the Development Studies Association Conference at The Open University’s Milton Keynes campus in June, we look forward to the Pan-Commonwealth Forum this month.

Co-hosted by the OU at the historic Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland, it will see some 600 delegates representing governments, academics and civil society from more than 60 countries address the opportunities presented by innovation for making open learning ever more accessible around the world.

There’s also news of a forthcoming World Service series informed by our academics, and last but not least, our first Development Management short course to launch on the Futurelearn online platform.
