Announcing Our 2019 Winners!

On behalf of the board and staff of Protecting Arizona's Family Coalition, we are pleased to announce this year's winners.

Congratulations to this year's Timothy J. Schmaltz Leadership in Advocacy Award winner,

Emily Jenkins
Arizona Council of Human Service Providers

Emily Jenkins is the current CEO of the Arizona Council of Human Service Providers and will be retiring at the end of September after decades of work to make the world a better place for all. She created the original Arizona Family Planning Council to bring information on reproductive health to women throughout the state. While working at Tucson Medical Center she worked on an international project that brought modern health care to Kazakhstan. She also worked on addressing the needs of children of incarcerated parents and training women on public assistance to get nursing training and jobs. Since coming to the Arizona Council of Human Service Providers in 2008, Emily has worked on a number of projects including keeping behavioral health and child welfare services alive during the recession, Medicaid restoration and expansion, reform and restructuring of the Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, creation of the Department of Child Safety, legislation and rulemaking to allow co-location of physical and behavioral health providers to facilitate integrated care, legislation to address the opioid epidemic, and much more.

We'd also like to congratulate this year's Emerging Leader Award winner,

Siman Qaasim
Children's Action Alliance

Siman is the former Director of Health Policy and now current President and CEO of Children's Action Alliance. She is a fierce leader and change agent helping families throughout Arizona, particularly for those needing access to healthcare. Through her leadership, she has built numerous coalitions to educate stakeholders, public officials, and state agency leaders to understand the importance of healthcare; and has provided countless hours of advocacy so that Arizonans have access to healthcare. Most notably is her advocacy to fund KidsCare, ensuring that children have healthcare coverage. Siman’s advocacy for healthcare access doesn’t stop there as she has worked to ensure that young adults aging out of foster care are able to receive coverage through AHCCCS. Siman is always willing to develop solutions that work for all Arizonans.

We are excited to honor both Emily Jenkins and Siman Qaasim on October 4th. Help us honor these outstanding individuals, reserve your tickets to join us!
