The 2019 NSW Junior Inter-Zone 7-a-Side Championship was a roaring success at Club Dubbo.
Club Dubbo were, once again, sensational hosts with fantastic organisation and support from all of the Board, staff and members giving the competing players and visiting spectators a wonderful experience. The players competing also put on a wonderful display of great bowling and wonderful sportsmanship, impressing all who witnessed the event.

The Champion Zone title was a very close race between the discipline winners, with Sydney South West (Zone 12) taking the gold medals, 2 points ahead of Illawarra (Zone 16). Newcastle (Zone 2) finished 1 point behind Illawarra, while Mid-Western NSW (Zone 4) was just 3 points behind Newcastle. These four Zones dominated the discipline medals, with Sydney North West (Zone 10) collecting the only medal not won by the 4 leading Zones.

Our sport is supported throughout the State by a conservatively estimated 20,000 volunteers.
These volunteers work in every level and capacity of club life, from Board directors, club and game officials, coaches, welfare officers, greenkeepers and club all-rounders, without whom many clubs would cease to exist.

Our sport could not function without the unwavering generosity of our volunteers.
The Bowls NSW Volunteer of the Year Award is your platform to show appreciation to the unsung heroes of your club.

The nomination process is quick and easy, download the 2019 nomination form here.
It only takes five minutes to fill out and can be done completely online (no need to print and post).
Let us know why the volunteer you are nominating has made a difference to your club.

All nominees will receive a certificate of appreciation from Bowls NSW.
The finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to the Bowls NSW Player Awards Evening, to be held at the Kirribilli Club, Lavender Bay on 13 February 2020.
The winner of the 2019 Volunteer of the Year will receive a trophy and a $500 travel voucher.

Played at Soldiers Point  24 - 25 August

The Soldiers Point Classic (Jim Richardson Shield) was played over the weekend of 24 - 25 August. This was the second year the event has been held with sides competing in a round-robin format for the Jim Richardson Shield.
The sides comprised the State Senior Side, State Over 40s Side, State Reserve Side and the Emerging Jackaroos Side.

Played in warm sunny conditions and on magnificent free running greens, we saw a high standard of bowls and very competitive games across the two days.

In the end it came down to the final game between the State Reserve Side and the Emerging Jackaroos to fight it out for the event honours. The Emerging Jackaroos ultimately won the game by a few shots and thus took out the overall event.

2019 LEGENDS v GREENKEEPERS

NSW Legends Keen to Retain Trophy

logo

The 2019 annual Greenkeepers vs Legends game was held on Monday 5 August, 2019 at Cabramatta Bowling Club. The NSW Legends were eager to retain the trophy after winning last year at Engadine.

The NSW Legends had a few debutants, Matt Baus, Dale Maitland, Ross Maguire, Gary Adnum with late (but much appreciated) replacements Mark Robinson and Beau Prideaux.
Sam Clough OAM was the captain of the Legends with Mick Woods leading the Greenkeepers.

Prior to the game the announcement of the Greenkeeper of the Year was made, the winner Graeme Brown from Yamba.

The rinks had been drawn, the weather was fantastic, the green was superb running about 17 seconds and the battle began between both sides.

The Greenkeepers took an early lead via two of their rinks skipped by Daniel Farrell and Adam Troth.  As the game progressed, the NSW Legends clawed their way back to take a narrow lead.  The rinks of Matt Baus and Jason Stokes started to dominate and were assisted by the Chris Green and Terry McCabe rinks.  As the game went into its final ends it was evident that the NSW Legends would win, with the final score being 129 to 103.

There were many smiling faces at the after-game presentation where Sam Clough OAM accepted the trophy from Mick Woods, followed by a few beers, a few stories about yesteryear and some exaggerations on some of the shots that had been played just to spice things up for next year’s game.
A thank you to General Manager, Jay Porter and Cabramatta for hosting a wonderful day.
