Weekly How Can I Help Hayhurst Tip - Support the Weekend Food Bags Program

If you bring in your bottles and cans with deposit labels, we turn them into food for our food bag program. We use the 20% extra voucher program at Fred Meyer to turn each bottle and can into 12 cents! We then buy produce for our food insecure families.

You can bring bags of bottles and cans with deposit labels to the school and put them in the back NE corner of the cafetorium near the piano or drop them at Kirsten Carr's house at 5252 SW Idaho.

In the last year we have created almost $1000 of produce from our "trash"!

The weekend food program has started up again today and will continue every Friday. Anyone interested in helping fill bags, we start after the kids clear the cafeteria after drop off.

Did You Donate to Support School Supplies Purchase?

One more reminder to pay the $30 per student for school supplies.

The PTA has already purchased over $5000 in school supplies this year to put in classrooms.  We will need more throughout the year to keep the teachers supplied.

If you are financially able to contribute, please remember to put a check or cash in the office or send it with your child in their backpacks labelled PTA school supplies. If you would rather use Paypal, please click donate on the link below.  It is the general Paypal for all of PTA and where we would like to put the donation. While you are there consider a recurring donation to help support all of the other things that the PTA does for your kids and their teachers.

The teachers have been so thrilled to have things in the classroom and organized before the first day of school. You all helped make that happen!!!!

Thanks!

Note to the community from Fran Barth

Dear Hayhurst Community,

Thank you so much for the cards, the emails, the gifts, the visits and all the kind words.  What a send off!  Thank you for always believing in me and for always supporting my crazy ideas.  While I am sad to be leaving Hayhurst, I am incredibly grateful for the nineteen years I've had to work with staff I adore, with children who stole my heart and with the most generous community anyone could ever hope for. It has been both an honor and an absolute blast.  I miss you already!

The district has placed me at Lane Middle School- I guess it's finally time for me to graduate. Yikes!

I wish you all the best.  If any community can keep this program afloat, it is all of you!  Remember to focus on the kids!

Hope you have a fabulous school year.
Sincerely,
Fran
