Dear Parents, We are following up on the communication sent out earlier today on the topic of food contamination on campus. The school has investigated the incident with our canteen. Below is an update.
Incident update •The investigation indicated that there was no malicious intent •The contamination was limited only to one dish, the Shepherd’s pie •The source of the contamination was deemed to be a ruptured glass serving plate that occurred within the vicinity of the preparation area of the Shepherd’s pie. •No other food was being prepared in that preparation area •We have had no further reports/incidents of students being affected at this time •The school canteen was closed at 4pm today and is undergoing a deep cleansing operation •All food prepared has been disposed off including any newly opened packages •All glass-wares are removed from the kitchen and will no longer be used. They are being immediately replaced by stainless steel wares •As part of the detailed investigation, our Canteen operator has terminated two of their staff members who were deemed involved •Once the cleansing operation is complete, the canteen will be operational tomorrow and additional vigilance will be undertaken
The School’s advice to parents •It is highly unlikely that large pieces of glass were consumed. However, there is a chance that smaller pieces may be consumed •Please observe your child for any abdominal pains or blood in stools •In such a case, please urgently seek medical attention at the nearest hospital and inform the school via the contact details below.
We deeply regret this incident and are continuing our investigation into the matter with our canteen. While the canteen has robust procedures in place, it is clear that further improvements are needed. The School canteen is working closely with the School to ensure further improvements to minimize the occurrence of such incidents.
Should you have any queries, please contact us at school@gess.sg or by phone at 64610867. You may expect further communication by 12pm tomorrow.
