SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS & SUMMER HANDICAPS (SPONSORED BY O’HARE O’DWYER SOLICITORS)
Thank you to all players competing in the Senior Championships and the Summer Handicaps for their patience last week concerning the restricted court availability due to the Burlington Senior Open

The focus is now on getting the draws in the Championships and Summer Handicaps completed over the next two weeks.    The finals of the Summer Championships and the Summer Handicaps will take place on Thurs 19th, Fri 20th & Sat 21st September.
Please organise all outstanding matches asap.  If you have restricted availability over the next two weeks and it is not practical for you to complete your matches please give a walkover to your opponent to allow the draw/draws to progress.  This is particularly relevant where players are waiting for opponents due to unplayed matches.

When you are signing in at the office let the member of staff know that you are playing a match in order that you can stay on longer than the usual 1hr time slot to complete the match if necessary.

PLEASE NOTE:   Bookable courts are not suitable for matches.  Under the booking rules courts may only be booked for one hour ie players cannot block book 2 hours for a match.   If the court is booked on the system by others for the following hour and you have not completed your match you will have to vacate the court and sign in at Reception with the member of staff who will allocate you a court when a court comes free.

We will have reduced court capacity from Monday 16th September due to the upgrading of our lights and courts.    This reduced capacity will not allow for ‘catch-up’ matches during the final week of the Senior Champs.

As a result all Handicap matches up to and including semi-finals must be completed by Sunday 15th September.  Handicap finals will be scheduled by the Tennis Committee.

In the case of the Senior Championships all rounds up to and including the quarter-finals must be completed by Sunday 15th September.   The Championship semi-finals will be scheduled by the Tennis Committee starting on Monday 16th September.

Finals in both events will start from Thursday 19th September and finish on Saturday 21st September – it is not possible for finals to be played after Saturday 21st September.

The  Senior ‘At Home’ BBQ takes place on Saturday evening 21st September after the last finals have been played.   Tickets are on sale in the office for €15.  Great value for a steak BBQ and all the trimmings including desert.    Sign up before Thursday 19th September – date numbers are needed for caterers.

2019 SUTTON LTC SENIOR OPEN SPONSORED BY BURLINGTON ENGINEERING

Sutton LTC hosted a Grade 1 Senior Open last week sponsored by Burlington Engineering.  The Tournament week was a big success and there was a fantastic atmosphere on the balcony each evening.

Sincere thanks and appreciation to Peter Lynskey who sponsored the event again this year. Peter has been a loyal sponsor of events at Sutton LTC and his generous sponsorship has enabled Sutton LTC to run Grade 1 events and see the tournament grow each year.

Thank you to all the members who volunteered over the week, came down to support the players in their matches and more importantly gave up the courts for the tournament to take place    A special mention to the voluntary Bar Staff who facilitated extended opening hours and hosted events in the Lounge during the week.

The Tournament was a great success with the top ranked players in the country competing.  A total of 232 players entered the competition across 21 events catering for all standard of players.    Well played to all the Sutton LTC players who took part and congratulations to those who reached the finals.

We look forward to opening the gates of Sutton LTC again next year and hosting the Senior Open on our new and improved courts.

William Kell also had a great week narrowly missing out on the title after a 3 set match in the Boys U14 Final.

SQUASH SHOES AND OTHER RULES
We must remind players that Shoes with Black Soles are not permitted even if they say NON MARKING. Squash Court 2 & 3 were badly damaged at the weekend because of Black marks.
Also we have had to remove chewing Gum, Stones, Food and other damaging items from the courts. It is very important that we respect the courts and refrain from bringing food, drinks and dirt on court.
LASTLY, some Juniors are NOT wearing their Squash Goggles on court!!!! It is so important that you ensure they wear their Goggles. It is compulsory World Wide until they reach 19 years and there is a good reason. If you are hit with a squash ball in the EYE it is very unlikely the eye will recover. If a junior is seen on court without goggles they will be told to leave the court. If they continuously refuse to abide by the rules of squash they will be reported to management.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Commencement of works on tennis courts 16th September

Dear members,

Please be advised that the long anticipated works on tennis courts will commence on Monday 16th September. New poles and new LED lights will be put up on courts 1-9, while courts 1-4 will also be resurfaced.

The works will be done in 3 stages, with first stage being courts 5-7. Court 4 will also be fenced off as it will be used for moving equipment etc. The next stage will be courts 8&9, followed by the last stage courts 1-4.

Projected timeframe for the completion of all the works is 7 weeks. We kindly ask all the members to bear with us until the works are fully completed.

GYM NEWS

Premier Fit Newsletter  Sept 5th

Hey Everyone,

So we are back into that time of year again, the kids are back to school and everyone is getting back to the usual schedule. The mornings are getting colder and the bright summer feeling is starting to slowly leave, so how about looking to get on track with your gym schedule? We have a 30 minute class from Monday to Friday at 7.10am to start your day with a solid sweat and some mental clarity for your work or school day.

We would also like to officially welcome some new Gym Team members to the community. One local some of you may know Neil Walsh, has been with us for the last couple of weeks. Going forward he will be mainly making the odd guest appearance as relief staff, but when you see him make sure he feels welcome and you ask him plenty of questions on how to stretch and reduce pain around injuries as he is making his final push towards becoming a physio.

Another face that is new to the team is Jamie Hill whom you will see a lot more of from next week. He is a fantastic Yoga Instructor so we plan to make use of that to add more yoga to our class schedule to help get you all more flexible. Jamie is also just about to do a triathlon this coming weekend so ask him how he got on when you’re chatting to him over the next week and if you have any interest in going for one yourself, well he will be the man to ask.

Important PSA is with everyone getting back to swing of normal life. We expect the morning classes to be PACKED out, so no more strolling up expecting a free place in a class. You need to pre-book to ensure you have a place. If a class is full - it’s full, we only have so much space and if we overfill a class we lose the quality you expect.

Finally we sadly say goodbye to one of our more frequent gym users Stephen Parsons, he will be missed around the Gym. Deepest Condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Best Regards,

The Gym Team
