Throughout Africa, many Catholic Sisters are dedicated to protecting the environment through innovative projects like...

Sr. Yvette Sam's closed loop recycling project in Cameroon that increases food production, manages waste and lifts the economic burden from her community.

Sr. Mary Lucy Afful started the Louisville Filtered Water Project following a major cholera outbreak that threatened the lives of thousands in Kumasi, Ghana. She used her ASEC education to secure grants to start the project - and there hasn't been a single cholera outbreak in Kumasi since.

Sr. Jane Perpetual Chitete teaches women how to make their own firewood briquettes from sawdust and water - so they no longer cut down trees. Her innovative solution combats deforestation in Malawi where firewood (used for heat + cooking) is in short supply.

And more...

Several Sisters are also initiating projects around renewable energy.

In Kenya, Sr. Susan Nderi used her ASEC education to write a successful grant, converting her congregation's provincial house water heater from electricity to solar.

Sr. Benedicta Anslem managed the installation of a solar pumping water station for a rural community in Tanzania. The project created jobs for 30 people and continues to serve over 4,000.

Sr. Stella Ovientaoba used her ASEC skills to find a donor to cover the costs of solar powered electricity for a local hospital. Staff no longer have to deliver babies in the dark, vaccinations are not spoiling and life-saving equipment can be used even with the unstable power grid in Malawi.

Sisters in ASEC's Sisters Leadership Development Program (SLDI) learn skills that will help them in their ministry work serving poor and vulnerable communities. Here's what Sisters in Zambia say about what they're learning in an SLDI Basic Technology and computer skills workshop.
Support Sisters solving environmental issues in Africa

Using their training from ASEC’s programs, Sisters are finding solutions to some of the most serious environmental issues facing Africa today. But more education is needed. Will you help support a Sister's education so that she can learn the critical skills needed to combat serious environmental issues in Africa?

Just $20 pays for one week of a Sister's education!
