Our popular Nerf Scrimmage* events are planned for October half term and as far ahead as Christmas!
* (renamed from Skirmish to avoid confusion with another local business!)
Nerf Scrimmage is a fast paced and fun game of capture the flag- with Nerf guns! The whole hall is set out with large boxes as ‘hides’ and several different ‘quests’ are undertaken. We provide safety equipment and the Nerf guns fire foam ‘darts’ so they don’t hurt when you get hit (unlike paintball!). We have two marshals and a session leader who are there to make sure everyone has a fun time!
There are dates available for younger and older children, please make sure you select the correct age category when you book!
Monday 28th October 11:30am-1:30pm (ages 7-11) (October Half Term)
Saturday 2nd November 9:30-11:30am (ages 5-8) (October Half Term)
Saturday 21st December 9:30-11:30am (ages 5-8)(Xmas Holidays)
Monday 23rd December 11:30-1:30pm (ages 7-11) (Xmas Holidays)
Friday 3rd January 11:30am-1:30pm (ages 5-8) (Xmas Holidays)
Saturday 4th January 9:30-11:30am (ages 7-11) (Xmas Holidays)
These events do sell out, so be sure to get your tickets quickly! We are happy to make Gift Vouchers for the Christmas sessions as presents if you’re looking for a cool present for kids in your life! Just buy your tickets and then drop us an email to fran@penistoneleisurecentre.org.uk and we’ll arrange that for you.

There are so many reasons you can lose your fitness as you get older. Injury, illness, or just not being able to get out-and-about as much as you used to are just some of the reasons which can lead to feelings of isolation or being fed-up! If this sounds familiar, we have the perfect group for you!
PenActive is our ‘youth club for older people’! Who’s coming this Tuesday?
We have a brilliant session lined up, with Kelly (she’s loads of fun!) coming along to provide a session of low impact aerobics and mobility exercises. This really is suitable for anyone, as you can work to your own level and there is absolutely no pressure to do more than you can manage.
As always, the informal group is really friendly with plenty of time to socialise. It is facilitated by one of our wonderful volunteers Louise, with support from our volunteer gym instructor Alison (whose specialism is helping people who feel nervous/unsure about getting back into exercise!).
The group meets at Penistone Leisure Centre (Thurlstone Road, Penistone) on Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30pm. It is currently free of charge to attend thanks to funding from Penistone Area Council and BMBC (though we may have to start charging a small fee after Christmas when the funding runs out!)

The Autumn block of skating lessons starts next weekend (14th/15th September) – your chance to improve, whatever level you are at. Skating lessons are for adults and children aged 5+ and teach new skills as well as playing games. There are beginner, intermediate and advanced classes on both days.
Classes cost £26 for 6 weeks and are run by Rachel (Saturday) and Rachel and Davy (Sunday).
It’s nearly time for our next Adult Skate Disco on Saturday 14th September at 7:30-10pm! Why not come along with your friends and let your hair down!
We’ll put the disco lights on maximum, the retro tunes on LOUD, and you can skate like it’s 1999!
Entry is just £5 and includes Skate hire if you need it. We have blades and quads in all sizes up to adult size 14, so you can be sure to find something that fits!
The tuck shop will be open with a selection of retro sweets and goodies to fuel your skating!
We were delighted to see our wonderful Sponsored Skaters in the Chronicle this week (though the picture doesn’t show ALL of the brilliant Skaters, so scroll down for more photos with ALL our skaters in!)
We were so proud of all the skaters who completed the 1 mile or 3.5 mile challenges, especially given that the weather wasn’t brilliant for roller skating in!
We’re still collecting sponsorship for the skaters, so don’t have a grand total just yet, but you can still sponsor them HERE if you’d like to!
