RRRC Annual Meeting Speaker Announced -- Early Registration Closes September 20th

Please plan to join members and staff of the Regional Commission at the 2019 RRRC Annual Meeting on September 26th at Prince Michel Winery and Vineyard in Madison County. Early registration rates remain available through September 20th and can be completed online (processing fees apply) or by cash/check by calling the Regional Commission at (540) 829-7450.
The Regional Commission is also pleased to announce that Mr. Evan Feinman, Chief Broadband Advisor for Governor Northam, will serve as keynote speaker. While the need for broadband access for education, healthcare, economic development, and quality of life is generally accepted, the ability to expand middle-mile and last-mile access throughout the region and Virginia is critical.
Finally, the Regional Commission also looks forward to presenting the 2019 RRRC Regional Leadership Awards to Government and Citizen stewards of the region.

RRRC Seeking Your Input on Local Food Awareness

The Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission is conducting a brief, 10-question local food survey of consumers within Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock and neighboring counties. The Commission is seeking consumers within those areas for their input on basic information regarding your shopping habits and opinions of our region's locally-grown food brand, Purely Piedmont.

Chesapeake Bay Phase III Watershed Implementation Plan Released

|
Late last month, Governor Northam released the final restoration plan for Virginia's portion of the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal rivers. The plan, known as the Phase III Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP III), identifies local, state and federal actions, policies and strategies through 2025 to enable the Commonwealth of Virginia to meet its nutrient and sediment reduction targets to help restore the overall health of the Chesapeake Bay.
Virginia's Planning District Commissions, including RRRC, assisted in the development of the WIP III through regional engagement and review processes with local governments, state and federal agencies, and regional partner organizations during 2018 and 2019. Flavor of the Piedmont Farm-to-Table Event Update
|
|
Due to low registration numbers, the Piedmont Environmental Council and Regional Commission have unfortunately decided to cancel the Flavor of the Piedmont event that was to be held this Sunday, September 8th. In order to ensure that the event was worthwhile for our local producers and attendees, a greater number of buyers and vendors were needed than were registered in advance of the event. The event partners will continue to explore options for rescheduling a similar event for the spring, so please stay tuned.

Old Rag Master Naturalists Recruiting New Members!

The Old Rag Master Naturalists (ORMN), a local chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists serving Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties, is currently seeking interested applicants to become master naturalists.
ORMN seeks candidates who are curious about nature, enjoy the outdoors, and want to be a part of natural resource management and conservation in Virginia. Basic training course in 2020 will include learning opportunities for geology, ecology, entomology, mammalogy, botany forestry, ornithology, and weather and climate.
