ECCV Deputy Chairperson Marion Lau Meets Queen at Parliament House

Queen Elizabeth met ECCV Deputy Chairperson Marion Lau at a reception at Parliament House last Friday.  The reception was held for prominent Australians as part of Her Majesty’s tour of Australia during the CHOGM meeting. Ms Lau said it was an honour to meet with the Queen and Prime Minister Julia Gillard. “ Her Majesty must be complimented for having empathy and understanding for all Australians," Ms Lau said. " Our attendance at the reception shows that ordinary Australians of all cultural backgrounds are an important and valued part of the nation."

United Nations Alliance of Civilizations IBIS Forum

This month the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) co-hosted the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations IBIS forum with Deakin University.  The forum was an enormous success with over 260 delegates present including speakers Former President Jorge Sampaio and Minister for Multicultural Affairs Hon Nick Kotsiras.
ECCV Chairperson Mr Sam Afra delivered a speech to the audience, emphasising Australia's leading role in promoting multiculturalism.
" Australia remains strong in its commitment to democracy, intercultural awareness and mutual respect," he said.
" The Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria draws its vision from these universal values; values also held by the United Nations."
The forum also featured the launch of the Integration Building Inclusive Societies (IBIS) website, a site dedicated to promoting a more integrated global world. 

 

ECCV Annual General Meeting Election Year
 
The ECCV Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 November at ECCV. This year is an election year and ECCV paid members are invited to nominate for committee positions. Positions availalbe this year include the Chairperson's position.
