I've obsessively asked "What is Love" for the past year, documenting every thought, opinion, and response I can gather from my intrusive questioning, but getting no closer to a solid answer.
This summer I had a surprising shift and asked "What is God". In fact, I found myself crying as I yearned for the invitation to communicate with God in an attempt to understand the connection I witnessed in so many people of faith. This week, my curiosity was answered without provocation and I openly accepted the invitation.
For the first time since my Confirmation at 14, I went to church.
It was an act of following curiosity and showing up fully enough to hear and feel what was being offered.
It's always been so much easier for me to answer "What is God" because I have some pretty solid beliefs on what faith means to me.
Turns out, between "What is Love" and "What is God", I only needed to ask the latter to answer both.
This Love Note could very well be about following curiosity, even when another version of yourself would have shunned it away. It could be about being open to things you don't understand. It's not really about religion, though I'll happily accept your e-mails to have a conversation about it.
Whatever. Take what you want, <<First Name>>.
